  1. Yes, I think 12 yearscof marriage could be about right. What do you all think would their wedding have been like? I guess, since Hermione is a very traditional girl who is proud of her muggle heritage, she would insist on a muggle wedding somewhere near her childhood home. Thus all her relatives could attend.

Come on JKR! We don't need to hear whether Romione - in your view - needed counselling or how you just stuck to the ship because it was your initial plan. Give us dates and places. Tell us how the Weasleys (Aunt Muriel, anyone?) and all the other witches and wizards tried to adapt to the muggle habits, how they fared in concealing what they really were. How Seamus and Dean tried to lighten up the occasion by insertng some magic. How Hermione's cousins all swooned over Fleur, how Ginny lost it and performed a bat-bogey hex on Hermione's arrogant cousin Angelica who laughed over how the Weasleys dressed, and how Arthur in the end had to put a memory charm on Hermione's relatives (except her parents of course) to make them forget what they have seen. That's what we want to know in detail.

  2. I'm sorry you have such a hard time to get your hands on your fave beer, Jon. I personally never tried Dinkelacker. You don't find it often where I am, here in northern Germany. I like Veltins or Jever or Beck's. But I don't drink beer on a regular basis. Just when I'm out for dinner. And depending on the meal, the mood and location, I sometimes prefer a good glas of wine. Not that you guys start to think I' m a drunk. Lol.

As for toasting to Ron and Hermione, we could always take Butterbeer.

  3. Oh, I love the bar and grill thread idea. Good one, Katherine.

I'd start with a steak english style and a cold beer (German beer of course:P )

And, Jon, OF course I love American sports, indie rock and scrabble. Wait the Detroit Bears, is that Baseball or Football! :P

  4. I agree it would likely be impossible to gather allthose peopoe online at the same time. I misunderstood, Jon, that was purely me being "stupid" not you being misleading. ;-)

Sometimes it's fun to think how it would be to meet some of the online people. Would we even have something to talk about besides HP? Would there be embarrassed silence or would wee connectmore easily because you have to be a certain kind of person to become attached to a fictional couple the way we do?

  5. I know how you feel, Jon. There are some people I "met" online over the years who I do miss.

I was very active in several HP forums a couple of years ago, but that has cooled down. Nowadays, I'm only active in a Criminal Minds forum, but since some of them started a CM group on facebook, we almost exclusively meet there and only two or three still come to the forum. At least we are still in contact.

I don't kid myself into thinking I really know my online friends. It's not comparable to the offline friendships I have. But we connected over a very speciel thing, i. e. R/Hr, and got to know bits and pieces about each other. And I cherish my online friends very much. So, if you manage to find a date and time to gather as many of the people youlisted for an online party, I'm game, Jon. As long as it remotely fits my time zone. Lol

  6. Again a very insightful and elaborate post, Jon. And a very interesting topic to discuss.

I think I understand what you mean by pointing out Hermione's vulnerability with regards to Ron and his love for her. And I agree it's a trait that makes her human, relatable and loveable.

As to the question at hand, it's something I need some time to mull over. Spontaneously I'd say for Hermione it's her steadfast trust in Ron. This might sound strange considering how often she admonished and criticised him for EVERYTHING lol. But I think that was not because she didn't consider him quite good enough for her, but because she knew he could do everything, he had it in him. And of course, their fallouts notwithstanding, she knew she could always rely on Ron, trust him, he would always be there for her.

For Ron it would be his protectiveness of Hermione, be it from deadly dangers, from the insults of others, or from herself. I consider his endless efforts of lightening her up, of making her less stuck-up, a form of protection too. Ron's protectiveness also had such an almost old-fashioned courteous vibe to it that appealed to Hermione greatly.

I think a lot of Ron's insecurity about Hermione and her feelings for him might have stemmed from her concealing her deep trust behind admonishments, eye-rolling and tutting. Over the years after DH, Ron would have derived confidence from Hermione more openly showing and voicing her trust, just like she did in the epilogue. Hermione on the other hand would have been able to work out some of her issues - i.e. her fear of academic failure - knowing that she has a man at her side who will always protect her and their children.

  7. Oh, please don't feel bad, Jon. I did not take any offense in your words or so. So, no need for an apology. *sends Jon a hug* :-)

I guess part of the reason I ship R/Hr is that JKR - regardless of the reason - has planned and written them as a couple-to-be right from the beginning. The hints were there. I cought on it in the second book and found it soooo cute. Lol. I guess had she written H/Hr, I would have shipped them. I love all of the trio and, while Ron is my fave character, I would have been okay with a different outcome too, if that had been the what was developped throughout the books.

  8. Wise words, Jon. I hope my comment about literary reality didn't come across as if I'm denying anyone their emotional connection. Of course I don't, everyone can ship what they want or feel.

But the text is what it is. I guess JKR's words still irk me a bit.

  9. Isn't it, Trixie? It is amazing how our love for and devotion to Ron and Hermione - as individual characters as well as a couple - while it might have been dormant somewhat for while due to real life and/or other interests taking over, is still so strong that we gathered here as soon as we felt R/Hr might be threatened.

Bottom line has to be, IMO, whatever whoever says, even if it's JKR herself, Ron and Hermione IS and alway WILL BE. They are literary reality if you will, and no one can ever change that.

  10. Rhrshipper and Kristin, you both wrote so beautiful, thoughtful and well-worded posts on why our couple ist so real, so believable. You put into words everything why we all love Ron/Hermione so much.

Shortly after DH was published, R/Hr were voted in various media outlets among the most popular couples in literature alongside for example Lizzie Bennet/Mr. Darcy or Romeo/Juliet. This proves: R/Hr is a classic!!!! I guess that also proves their literary credibility.

  11. I'm not sure I want to hear any more of JK's views on the books. It's a natural thing to change your mind, to gain a new perspective, but she can't change anything, unless she rewrites the series. Which would be complete nonsense of course. The books are finished, they are what they are. And JK telling the readers she thinks differently about certain aspects now and that she might write them differently today, doesn't help any of the readers. Not those who love the books just as they are because they will always have this nagging feeling of reading something that is not quite right. And not those who wished some aspects had turned out differently. They might feel vindicated by JK's words now, but the books are still what they have been. It just hurts everyone, IMO. I'm sure it's not what she intended with the interview, but it's what happened.

And I'm not sure I'm willing or capable just now to forgive her that she threw Ron into the lion's den and gave the haters new fodder. :-(

  12. Wonderful post, Katherine, lovely words about our favorite couple.

I'm still not comfortable - and never will be - with JK using words like "maybe" or "probably" they will be alright. They looked pretty much alright to me in the epilogue 2017. Yes, Ron "lied" to Hermione about cheating in his driver's test, but the dynamic I saw at work between them there is very simikar to Arthut and Molly's and aren't they a loving, happy and successful couple? And "fundamental incompatibilities"? Where? Which? Ron and Hermione are different in some ways, and in some they are quite the opposite really. But that doesn't equal incompatible, does it?

Anyway, Ron and Hermione belong together. With everything they've gone through, they will manage to deal with their differences in every-day life and thus be a good example for their children.

  13. I'm not sure I really feel that much better. I guess knowing the full interview now and everything that happened this week as a result of the quotes (mainly the Ron-hate) has to sink in first.

I'm glad though that JK finally acknowledged that Hermione too has/had to work on her issues. She's often perceived as this flawless being that could do no harm. But that's what I love so much about Hermione, that she's not perfect. That she is so intense - as JK too put it - and can be so ... nerve-grating. She has all these good, amazing qualities but her flaws make her a real and relatable "person".

Basically, as I read it, JK has become aware of why she has written RHr. She doesn't say she regrets it. Her words might be interpreted as "RHr isn't credible" (and I know some HHr people will continue to interpret it this way). But she never said RHr isn't credible, right? She just said she didn't think about credibility when writing RHr.

I have to add a huge compliment to Emma. She's really a good interviewer. Smart girl. Maybe another career option?

  14. I think what bothers me the most is the feeling I get that JKR doesn't care (anymore?) about Ron. I might me totally wrong and - again - the full interview tomorrow when we read JKR's words might put things into perspective a bit more, but ...

JKR  was always aware and apparently aghast at the Ron-bashing that mainly came from the shipping wars. She must have known that her uncertainty about R/Hr now must ignite another round of Ron-bashing. All the old arguments seem to come up again. At least that's what I could see by skimming through some threads on another forum. I don't need to repeat them here ... we all know them too well. So I'm asking myself what JKR's agenda of even "going there" right now might be. I always considered JKR's words as part of canon, or almost-canon. Her sort-of taking back R/Hr is confusing, to say the least.

  15. Thanks, Kristin. *hugs*

For some reason I can't edit my own post so here is a snipped I found on Mugglenet:

The printed article suggests that only Emma believes Harry and Hermione would've made the better match, whilst the online article states both actress and author agree.

While I too have a hard time to believe that Emma would change her mind about R/Hr - she has always been such a vocal supporter of R/Hr - I personally wouldn't mind it as much as if JKR backpaddled. Unfortunately, written interviews are always edited as well, so important little nuances might get lost. In the end we might have to wait for JKR to comment on this all, if she even comments. Maybe she just sits at home in Scotland and rubs her hand with glee over all of us getting so worked up. She just has this wonderful kinf of humor. LOL

  16. Ha, ha, I love a bit of hyperbole from time to time, Jon.

Anyway, I know what you mean with infidelity. All the comments over the years about anvil-sized hints, nudge-nudge, wink-wink, and how Ron and Hermione love to bicker and are made for each other. Now she backpaddles completely. She says she doesn't want to break hearts but she does (well, kind of) and she is too smart not to know what kind of reaction these comments would entail. Basically, she lied to her readers, knowingly and - what's worse - by sticking to the plot although she thought it wasn't right, she lied to herself. At least that's how it all sounds to me.

But dookdook is right, JKR never used the word "regret" in the quotes provided so far. So that part of my first post on this topic is redundant now.

  17. I will always respect and admire JKR (and Emma anyway), however much I disagree with an opinion of theirs, but I have to admit, the excerpts do bother me quite a bit. For a variety of reasons.

From how it sounds, she thinks R/Hr isn't credible. How so? Even if the couple was a kind of wish fulfillment (I guess JKR relived and led to a happy-end her childhood crush on her friend Sean, the tall, red-haired, lanky one with the Ford Anglia), that doesn't mean it hasn't literary credibility. The bickering couple is a classic literary tool and has as much credibitly as Harry and Hermione have.

And character-wise, how are H/Hr a better fit than R/Hr? And what about Ginny? She is a smart, capable, strong witch who does not grate on Harry's nerves at every moment possible. How are Harry and Hermione less likely to end up in counseling? (btw, I don't think R/Hr would need counseling at all in the first place).

Of course JKR is entiteld to change her opinion and express it. Like we all are. But from how it sounds, she didn't change her opinion in the time AFTER the books, but already during the writing process, but she just resumed to "stick to the plot". In admitting to that, doesn't she just discredit herself as a writer?

She "regrets" it now. That is quite a strong word. JKR has always been very cautious and non-committal with how she worded things. Regret translates to "I made a mistake, R/Hr are wrong."  I think that hurts not only the R/Hr people but the H/Hr shippers as well, because the books didn't end H/Hr did they? So what should they think now?

It all sounds belittling. Belittling a beloved character, a beloved couple, and her own writing in the end. At least when it comes to the romance-part of the books. All I can hope for now is that the full interview will bring more clarity, that context will put things into perspective. Maybe I'm reading too much into these couple of words. Maybe I am far too invested in a literary couple and that after all these years ... But then, Ron is my favourite literary character and R/Hr my favourite couple and it does hurt when not just any critic or shipper says these things but the very author who wrote it herself.

In the end, maybe we should see it like this: The books ended R/Hr and as long as she doesn't go about and re-writes, we are fine.

  18. Katherine!!!!:D It's so good to see you're still around. So many seem to be missing. I guess it's normal that things have become more quiet 5 years after the final book and almost 2 years after the final movie. How can we revive this thread?

It was so sad to see people deny that R/Hr had so much as a friendship just to strengthen their H/Hr arguments. I never understood why Ron as a character and his friendship with Hermione had to be put down in order to argue for H/Hr. I guess these people saw Ron as a threat because deep down they realized it was R/Hr after all? But, oh well, those discussions are long over. There is no denying it: Ron and Hermione are one of the cutest and best fictional couples.

And, Katherine, I absolutely agree with this sentence of yours: "As adorable and lovable as the romances of the series are, a theme perhaps more key to the series than romantic love, is friendship."

I absolutely adore the trio friendship (and the later on the friendship they formed with Neville, Ginny and Luna too). I think this friendship, the love he felt for them, was one of the strongest driving forces behind Harry's actions and decisions. I think this friendship saved his life so many times.

  19. Haven't had time to come here regularly, but thanks to Jon sending me a comment, I am here now. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Holidays.

About Hermione being with the Weasleys before Harry appears: I think JKR wanted to make clear early on that Hermione was friends with Ron too and not just because Ron was friends with Harry. R/Hr had their own, independent friendship. Of course it was a hint at their later romance also. But Ron and Hermione were friends first before they fell in love. I remember during the shipping discussions (no, I don't want to start a new one, just reminisce about it) shippers from the other side claimed Hermione was only friends with Ron for Harry's sake. She merely put up with him and all that bla bla. The fact that Hermione stayed with the Weasleys BEFORE Harry even showed up was a good counterargument. :king:

  20. "He's a nice kisser" ;) Everything from the BTS kiss was pure gold...the way they look at each other...so beautiful. We love them!!!! ;)

Did she really say that? (haven't watched the clip yet) If she did, then it's way better than "it was the most horrible thing I ever had to do" or whatever the words were she used in that one show. Poor Emma. Got so much flack for that sentiment, but of course we know it's not because Rupert is a bad kisser or because she doesn't like him (as a friend. I don't ship them ;) ). It was just that it was such an awkward situation for both of them. And it was Emma's first onscreen kiss. A very difficult situation for her which she dealt with gracefully.

Btw, where is everyone? I know I am not on here very often either. Real life is so busy. But there is just one thing I have to say: I love all my fellow HeRons on here and I LOVE R/HR. <3

Okay, for some reason I have problems editing my previous post, so here it goes:

I have just watched the bts clip of THE KISS and still, for the life of me, I can't understand why they didn't take another shot from another angle for the movie. One in which you can actually see how passionate and HOT the kiss was. Not one in which Ron/Rupert's head is blocking the view. I mean, come on. Emma says it herself in the clip, they just almost died. They have years of pent-up tension and we get such a short smooch in which you can hardly see anything. For what we know, it could have been a peck on the cheek. Who would know what goes on behind the back of Ron/Rupert's head?

  21. New old R/Hr pic!!!! :happydance:

    http://mytimeisright...-cine-marcado-x

    I miss them...

    Awwwwww, that's so .... awwwwwww.

Just the other day I was thinking how much I miss the shipping actually. Talking about R/Hr, how they became friends, fell in love, their development throughout the books and the speculation about their life after the series ended.

And there is something else. Maybe one of you can help me. I have a problem with Pottermore. I am stuck at Chapter 5, Diagon Alley. The rest is locked for me. I can't proceed. I have gone through the first four chapters several times. I have read every tiny bit of information more than once. I have collected all items I could find, but I just cannot enter Gringotts let alone shop at Ollivanders'. Have I overlooked something? How am I supposed to get my wand, to go to Hogwarts, get sortet, earn house-points, proceed in the story ...? I wanted to write to the admins or some kind of help desk, but there is no function for that either. It's frustrating and I am about to give up.:angry::(:sob:

  22. Cheers, wolf-whistles and a couple of "Finally"s: that's what THE KISS got in our theater.

I know the MTV awards can't be taken seriously and I certainly do that. I just think it would have been so very nice had they won. Just some fun acknowledgement, if you know what I mean. ;)

  23. Well ... looks like we didn't win. :( Twihards have done it again. How stupid is that? I am so sad right now.

Well, cbmac, of course you are right that R/Hr is just an awesome kiss. Full of love, devotion, releasing pent up tension and passion. And it IS juicy. I guess I just used the wrong word. They should have won. MTV awards are just stupid. *shakes head*

  24. I'm crossing fingers that R/Hr win best kiss. We have been talking about that for so long. Even before THE KISS was shot. It is a very tough competition though and - in all honesty - what I have seen from the other kisses, they are more ... "juicy", if you know what I mean. OUR kiss was over so fast, it was almost blink and you miss it. Stil, everything cbmac said about THE KISS is true.

I think the key to who will win the award will be the neutral voters. People that aren't die-hard Potter-fans or Twilight-fans. All Potter-fans will likely vote R/Hr. All the Twihards will vote for Bella/Edward. But many neutral people might be a bit tired of Twilight and Bella/Edwars who - I think - have won the last years, right? Anyway, I can imagine many voters who are not part of either fandom might be inclinded to give the vote to R/Hr or one of the other competitors. *crosses fingers*
