  1. Yeah I'd research what you want to do before you do it. To be honest there's a lot more to do in the surrounding cities rather than LA itself. First and foremost make sure you have a car (I'm guessing you will if you plan to be here that long). California doesn't have the greatest public transportation system. If you're really into sports you might be able to catch a Lakers game or a Dodgers game. Disneyland isn't too bad but for my money I'd go with Six Flags, the rides are better and the atmosphere is less fairytale. There's also Knots Berry Farm which is decent but if you're on a time re
  2. No need to worry Arie , I get out plenty ^.^. @Erik: A truer graphic was never made =D.
  3. Her exit interview was pretty graceful, which is why I don't understand why people were upset. I'm sure 99.9% of people put in her situation wouldn't be smiling if they had just lost a huge event they had trained most of their lives for. She wasn't a jerk about it, it's just the media overreacting. The same can be said about Gabby's hair and the "unamerican" leotards they've been wearing. To be honest I'm getting sick of all these idiotic opinions that try to stir up controversy to make a topic more interesting for viewers. Criticism creates drama and drama sparks interest but this is totally
  4. Knowledge is power O_O! The power of knowing things
  5. Funny you should say that because outside my major my next best subject is history with direct emphasis on the American Revolution, French Revolution, Napoleonic era, American Civil War, WWI, and WWII. Update: Ok I got bored and tired after typing for like an hour and a half. I short changed you at the bottom but I included an exciting Wikipedia article that will give you all the information you need =D. This summary may be riddled with spelling, grammatical, and other English language errors, but I don't feel like going back and editing it so have at it -_o! Also this is a pretty small port
  6. True but those are generally specialized schools within the college. There's a difference between a college and a school but it's more of just a argument of the term used to describe each. They are for all intents and purposes the same thing really on the collegiate level because schools specialize in a particular field, which is what it all comes down to when you look at the definitions. A general definition of college being "An educational institution or establishment, in particular" and school being "An institution for education" but at the collegiate level a school does specialize in somet
  7. Just to add on, universities are generally composed of multiple colleges/schools whereas a college is more of a stand alone entity. For instance UCLA is composed of the college of letters and sciences, school of nursing, school of theater, film, and tv, ect (school being pretty much the equivalent to a college). They are generally much larger given that they have more colleges and in turn a larger student body.
  8. USA men's basketball is suppose to start around 5pm EST, I think they are showing it live so plan accordingly to your time zone. Usually they air it on the main channel or NBC sports. Basically it should be on in an hour.
  9. Yeah I realize that and I know they won't change it but my point is in the digital age where twitter, facebook, and even online news outlets dominate it's impossible to keep results secret before prime time comes around (especially on the west coast where I live.) The names of winners trend on twitter, people from other countries/east coast update statuses congratulating or chastising athletes, and then on the front page of websites, AOL, ESPN (more obvious, I've avoided this one because of course a sports site is going to post sports results), MSN, and even CNN have posted up results right af
  10. Yeah they show certain things live, but generally the bigger stuff like gymnastics, beach volley ball (depending on who's playing), and finals for swimming are held for prime time. All part of the ratings game I suppose. I've caught a bit of water polo, field hockey, boxing, and indoor volley ball live so it's all good.
  11. I am getting super annoyed they aren't showing a lot of the big events live. I can understand more people will watch in prime time, but in the age of FB and twitter it's impossible not to know the results before you see them happen. It takes all the excitement out of it. Even news websites report the results right after it happens ~.~, I'm trying to avoid all media right now erghhhh. (I'd stream it live, but streaming live on a computer screen isn't the same as watching it with friends/family in a living room). Any who, I think Jordan will come through for the team. I hope she's the type of
  12. That two person per country restriction is stupid. Let the best of the best go at it regardless of what country they are from. I feel bad for Jordan too, she should have the right to defend her title.
  13. Sounds interesting, I'm glad Tennant's coming back. Somehow though I don't think they'll do like they've done in the past with the three doctors and the five doctors. Eccleston has said on various occasions he's not going to return, even for an anniversary special. On top of that Hartnell, Troughton, and Pertwee aren't around anymore T_T. I've started rewatching the old series (up to season 15 so far) and to be honest I kind of like some of the older incarnations more then the present incarnations. Whatever they do I hope they bring back the 8th doctor too, it seems unfair that he was given ju
  14. ADVENTURE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. It's not entirely fair to negatively judge Emma for asking people to help contribute. She probably does have the money to cover their goal but it's not fair for us to ask her to contribute all her money to charity. If she contributes all the money towards their goal it sets up an unrealistic expectation that she can cover the costs of charities she supports. Even if it's a one off deal, for example "this one time I'll cover that amount," it's still not fair to expect her to do it. Large corporations have excess money that they practically give away on fruitless endeavors to make them look good
  16. Try not to judge it by modern day standards. By that I mean in comparison to modern day literature it's not going to be anything like Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games, ect. in terms of ease of reading or even really catching your attention. I specialize in 19th century literature and creative writing, and Frankenstein is more of a classic example of Romanticism and the legitimation of the novel, in those regards and in terms of what it did for the gothic genre it was a pretty big deal. By today's standards though it's not going to be as action packed or engaging to the modern reader as
  17. Hear hear good sir. A lot of European monarchies don't have the powers that they did centuries before. Most, as sirben pointed out are just around for tradition and image. They have a strong cultural and historical relevance, taking away the monarchies is like taking away a quintessential part of those countries. As SomeBloke has pointed out there isn't a substantial financial burden brought on by the monarchy and the benefits, the culture, tradition, history, image, all far outweigh the minor financial burden. During times of financial hardship people always look for answers and outlets for
  18. There's always a discussion if one only looks for it. I'm sure many would be interested in something personal from Emma, something we don't already know. But at the end of the day how far can you really take the celebrity/fan relationship? We admire her work, and we're interested in her life to an extent, but when it starts getting more personal that relationship begins to change. Emma shouldn't have to, nor feel required to, divulge any aspects of her personal life. Personal life is just that, personal, as soon as it's disclosed it's no longer personal. I'm not saying this solely for Emma

    Sore Eye

It sounds like either an infection or an allergic reaction. If it's starting to discolor and turn purple my first thought would be infection, itchiness would also be a symptom of that. Since you've suffered from it for at least 4 days I'd say that's further indication of infection (Unless as Dook pointed out you've started using some type of new makeup or product that you haven't used before). I wouldn't wait, I would do what Dook suggested and call your doctor and try to push the appointment up. If that's not an option then seek an urgent care facility. If it is an infection it can get progre
  20. It really is sad the amount of coverage celebrities and high profile public figures get these days over the most trivial things. Would it be cool to see Emma at the airport in person, yeah probably, might even make for a decent story. Do we really need to see pictures of it every time, as well as every time she or any other celebrity go out in public? Not really. I had a guest lecturer (Charles Wiley) last semester who really hammered home the inept nature of America's news reporting. American news outlets have little to no focus on international news and instead focus too much on political bi
