And I am sure you are familiar with the Christian prophecy of their being political unrest and natural disasters in the end times. The Jewish time of the coming Messiah and the Christian time of the second coming of the Messiah are similar.

It would then look like the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and possibly the 6th seal have already been opened.

I had not known that! Very interesting, thank you for informing me!

I've heard about Australia too D: Those news were devastating. My thoughts are with those people. First all those riots and wars, now huge natural disasters. I'm really starting to feel hopeless.

My thoughts are with those people as well. I hate to admit, but I have not been following the majority of the headline news. I do read up on some, but it all gets very depressing to hear--especially if you are in a position of being helpless to do anything.

This past year has been a very active year in terms of natural disasters, political upheavals, and transitions into wars. I suppose this is ironically natural and inevitable. I wouldn't stretch out as far as to claim that we are "reaching the end of the world" as few or some might say.

Disasters have been happening for quite a while, as have wars--the urgency or impact of which have been nearly on level or slightly less than what is happening now. Another point that has been mentioned and discussed elsewhere is the level of connectivity that we have in relation to news reports. However, this does not in any way diminish the importance of catastrophic effects of the earthquake and tsunami that is occuring in this moment.

I find it saddening, frightening, and stressful to know that this is going on. The Pacific area, in general, has been very active this year. I believe there were two significant earthquakes in South Island, New Zealand, a devastating cyclone which made initial impact on the Northern tip of Queensland, Australia, a major flood of Queensland (including Brisbane), Australia, and several other events which have happened which I've drawn a blank on recalling.

Most of these events have seemed to happen in the span of less than half a year, mostly because the Pacific Basin has spans of time, and cycles, where geological movements are more active and volatile than others. Also, Japan and several other countries sit on what is referred to as "The Ring Of Fire":

"The Ring of Fire" (no, it isn't just a song) is given the term "The Circum-Pacific (Seismic) Belt" and is an area in which 90% of the earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur. It is home to about 75% of frequent and non-frequent volcanic eruptions in the world. Trouble is, when the tectonic plates shift a significant distance more than usual and one subducts (one plate collides and is drawn under) another plate, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur (<--- simple version).

Plates in the Pacific Basin:

I suppose that there is a certain level of detachment one has in approaching news like this. It never really, truly "hits home" until a significant event happens in your ("your" meaning the general reader's) area. When it does, you retain those feelings of what it is like to go through a natural or catastrophic disaster and that's when the emotions get to you in a current situation like this.

Even preliminary reports and headlines describe "hundreds" being killed as a result of the earthquake, its aftershocks, and the impending tsunami. It makes me feel hopeless as well. :(

When I woke up at 7 am today, I always watch the news and I was shocked of course. Watched it all day long. But what concerns me the most is that maybe there is a meltdown in a nuclear power plant. I'll just say Chernobyl, maybe just worse.

Also Japan asked the European Union for help. Germany already send specialists, but now that Japan officially asked for help, they'll send more.

Yeah, I was just reading something about that. All the nuclear plants are on lock down. They are saying that there might have been a leak from one of them. Which is going to be an additional huge disaster!

Well the meltdown problem is since a few hours. If that happens omg...and even a lock down doesn't mean it's save. :/ But that one power plant ca't lock down, and the cooling liquid is running out. And if that happens, good bye.

Thats why we shouldn't build any nuclear power plants anymore. -.-

I just read this:

Thousands of people evacuated their homes in northern California, Reuters reported.

State officials warned residents not to assume that the danger had passed. "We're just getting started," said Jordan Scott, a spokesman for the California Emergency Management Agency, news agencies reported.

It is reported that deaths have already occurred in California. Many many boats have been sinking or knocking into each other. I just can't believe that the Tsunami traveled so far, and to this extent!

Strong Tsunami >_<. Well just wait until the earth starts to shake in California. And it will happen sooner or later.

Tsunamis travel as far as they can until they reach a coastline. If you remember the tsunami that ocurred in 2004 which completely covered Sri Lanka and had originated in Sumatra, Indonesia, and travelled across the Indian Ocean, the 9.1-9.3 measured earthquake (third mechanical recorded largest earthquake in history) reached as far as the Eastern coast of Africa. The furthest recorded death was in South Africa, and countries which were affected by fatalities numbered fourteen.

The total travel of the 2004 tsunami measured 8,000 kilometres (or 4,971 miles).

2004 Tsunami

The biggest issue with deaths being in California is that the West Coast of the United States will most likely be the Pacific tsunami's stopping point. The total distance between the two opposing sides is roughly 8,816 kilometres (or 5,478 miles). When tsunamis are out on open ocean with little to no land barriers (I know Hawaii is between the two) or geological masses to impede their speed, the waves' speed peaks.

I just heard over the news that a California man died as a result of tsunami-like waves hitting Southern California because he was taking photos and as a result got swept under. For those people who cannot escape enormous waves, there is no timeframe to reach safety. For others who become curious and try to record at a distance which is not safe, things like this happen.

Strong Tsunami >_<. Well just wait until the earth starts to shake in California. And it will happen sooner or later.

Let's not get gloom and doom here. There has to be some grain of positivity and hope in all of this, whether it would be searching for individual stories of survivors or listening to uplifting audio reports which will start to emerge in few days' time.

I will also assume that the economy and other aspects of world stock markets will take a large plummet as well as prices on certain imported commodities will be raised, but that is as to be expected when natural disasters or other catastrophic events occur.

Its a terrible disaster, the loss of life is horrendous. I'm sure every country that can, will send Japan any help they need.

Nature can unleash some terrible forces sometimes.

The U.S. has already sent troops to help. It has also been reported that the U.S. is also sending materials to contain any nuclear breach and/or overheating. The U.S. will be airlifting and bringing in equipment to help with recovery and cleanup.

They already sent a few aircraft's over as well to help with evacuations. Plus, there have been a ton of relief aid and such started already! I saw a whole list of places you can donate to.

Totally intense! Just another stark reminder that we are all guests on mother Earth.

I'm not surprised at what's going on to be honest, maaaany more to come. I mean it's been pretty damn obvious for a while now that natural disasters are going to strike big time, unless you're an ignorant fool, then it's not so obvious. Nature is readjusting to all the damage we've been and are inflicting upon it.I'm just happy I have the best of both worlds, the ocean but at the same time a huge ass mountain in front of my house to protect me (the ocean is on the other side, around it, bleh I dunno how to explain it) lolol.

But anyway, I really hope that all the super awesome Japs get sorted, soon. Lucky for them they are one damn clever and efficient nation. Max cool people. I have a friend who lives in Japan, and he posted on facebook what he's experiencing, and I can tell you he's totally depressed right now, he doesn't know what to do with himself because it's compete chaos all around.
