Seeing as it's Halloween...

We need a Halloween thread. Share scary stories if you like :P

I was wondering, have any of you ever sighted/been in a "Haunted House"? Whether it's just stories or things that actually happened. And do you believe in haunted houses, ghosts and such? :o Or spirit type things.

Well, my cousin and I heard about this large building in Ponsonby, Auckland, it's called Carlile House and was an orphanage from 1910, built in 1866. Anyone can wonder around the property and have a good look and take pictures, the first time I went there we couldn't get in.

Local legend has it that there was a fatal fire in the home (killing 43 children :() and it's haunted by the ghost of a nurse bewailing her lost children. And "Today I spoke with one of the neighbours to this building and he confirmed that it was haunted as himself and other neighbours in the area often hear children playing and laughing and also a groaning noise."

Because the building is protected from our government, it cannot be pulled down.

Yesterday, my sister and I were driving past it, and we saw the door was open! With signs outside saying 'Artwork Sale, come on in!', they were there before but I thought they had been from a few years ago or something because the first time we visited it was locked up and the tin cage thing on the right was infront of it.

So me and my sister went in, I'm normally not scared of things like this, but it actually felt quite spooky once we got in. We saw no one at all around, it was half dark and we had a wonder for a minute. I can't help thinking the dangers of that, what if a kid went in or anyone and something happened? :P The door was wide open to a haunted-looking house, kids would be interested. There was a tonne of broken glass on the floor. There was also a room opposite the main door that we came through and we looked through the broken window and saw children's books  That made the whole thing worse, because the building had been practically untouched for around a hundred years or since the fire happened, and knowing what had happened to those children :o There were two stair cases on each end of the corridor and another room that we didn't really look in. That's as far as we got, because it was pretty friggin' creepy. Got out of there fast unfortunately, maybe if I go there again I'll go upstairs.

These pictures were taken from my first visit:

(Extremely squished taking this photo, I couldn't get further away)

I googled the house just now and found this picture on a forum with the poster saying it was the same place, but in working order. It has the same structure from what I saw looking at it up close, yet here it's called Costly Institute. I guess it could be before it was Carlile House, but it has all that writing on the front door and that back brick wall... No one knows much about this place but I've done a bit of research  Although I haven't looked in any books yet :o Hermione would be disappointed.

Very sorry for typing too much!

Hope that was interesting ^_^ Lol it sucks that the two days I've been there the weather was perfect, not dark to add to the look of it.

Awh that was interesting. "Haunted" places and creppy things always fascinated me. What's wrong with me? xD

Actually i've once been inside a "Haunted place". T'was at a small village, next to a cemetery, which made is seem more spooky. Because it was a bit windy and graves here have a specific place next to them made of glass and inside are the candles, and because of the wind we heard the noises of the glass and it freaked us out. Still we decided to get inside and explore a bit. It was dusty and creepy with old furniture and stuff. And you felt kind of an emptiness, like we really didn't want to be there. So we left a little before it becomes dark. Too bad i have no pics, happened long time ago ;(

No one believes in such "places" but walking around in such places, watching old things and try to imagine an old family living there and creating scenarios and stuff are quite fun.

I have never really visited anywhere haunted really, apart from a pub that was supposed to be haunted but all i did in there was get crazy drunk.

However, my old sixth form college has stories of ghosts. I never experienced any of it until me and my drama group had to stay till like 9pm at night to rehearse. Spooky things happened like banging on windows, footsteps going up the stairs but there would be no one there because the light would come on if someone was there.

My old college is like hundreds and hundreds years old, cant remember the exact age now.

That was a scary night lol but other than that, nothing :(

I have a scary story sorta that happened to me due to the fact of me watching Blair Witch Project lol

This was in the late 90's and we got finished watching the movie (me and my friends).

Well I was younger than them so the movie pretty much had me thinking it was all real. Well it was late at night so we just went outside in the backyard of my house and we decided to play hide and seek. So I was hiding in the bushes while one of my friends was counting. Well I waited and waited trying to keep quiet. It was really pitch dark and quiet around me. I suddenly started hearing footsteps near me so I started shaking and my heart was pounding so fast. The foot steps kept getting closer and closer so I closed my eyes and I felt something cold and wet on my leg so I jumped up and screamed & it was only my dog lol & after I screamed I basically was the first to get caught *sigh* :P
