i love emma
Im not aware of a thread like this, if there is please let me know. Im a huge fan of poetry; i love reading it, i love writing it, and i love sharing it. So i made this thread for sharing poems and advice on writing them.My poetry tends to be about my inner emotions, its a way of letting it all out in an indirect way.I will post some of mine soon but i want to know if you guys think this is a good idea. My fav poem at the moment is probably This Shore by Tom Milsom, its about NYC. I dont know what it is i like, i think its the rhythm and how he says it (video on youtube btw) So share your poems and favourite pieces!

~*Skittlez*~
I love Poetry as well, even though mine tends to come out kind of emo >.> idk why but it does lol. here is one of my most recent Mind Games I want to confessSo I can forgetBut to confessIs to cause harm. These games in my headThey dont give in I sit in the darkWondering if I am insaneBut the voice spokenReminds me why. Your voice softYour words unfeelingYet it still sends shivers through me. Am I wrongTo feel this wayAm I wrong To give in These mind games keep pullingripping at the strings of my heart You are himIn every aspectBut why..Why cant I forgetYou linger in the backOf my god forsaken mindTelling me words of coldness Your name... untold... Monkey Cartwheels
My favorite and most inspiring is Footprints One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord, “You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?†The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.†

honeytinkle
I don't really write poems, these are just some of the latest I've written, but poetry is not my thing. honeytinkle
Thank you =) My favourite poems are by Sappho who lived on the island Lesbos around 600 BC. They haven't find a complete poem, only fragments. No one really knows much about her, but her poems are filled with love and some call her the first love poet. I use to read the fragments in Swedish. I love the feeling in them, but I haven't find it in the English translations yet **What country maiden charms thy heart,However fair, however sweet,Who has not learned by gracious ArtTo draw her dress around her feet? ** By the cool water the breeze murmurs, rustlingThrough apple branches, while from quivering leaves Streams down deep slumber. ** Who made me gifts and honoured me? ** To you, fair maidens, my mind does not change. ** Turn to me, dear one, turn thy face,And unveil for me in thine eyes, their grace. ** I think men will remember us even hereafter. ** With my two arms, I do not aspire to to touch the sky. ** Now like a mountain wind the oaks o'erwhelming,Eros shakes my soul. ** The sinking moon has left the sky,The Pleiades have also gone.Midnight comes--and goes, the hours flyAnd solitary still, I lie. The Moon has left the sky,Lost is the Pleiads' light; It is midnight, And time slips by,But on my couch alone I lie. Edited October 18, 2011 by honeytinkle

Thessalie
Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?†The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.†Though I'm agnostic and not a believer, I though that was a beautiful poem. I have one I love that I would like to share with you : Max Ehrmann Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrenderbe on good terms with all persons.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant;they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble;it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.Exercise caution in your business affairs;for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;many persons strive for high ideals;and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself.Especially, do not feign affection.Neither be cynical about love;for in the face of all aridity and disenchantmentit is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.Beyond a wholesome discipline,be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God,whatever you conceive Him to be,and whatever your labors and aspirations,in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,it is still a beautiful world.Be cheerful.Strive to be happy. Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.
