Psychedelic Rock

Recommended Posts

Anyone here into the psychedelic rock of the mid to late 60’s? While I can’t agree with it’s influence (namely, drugs) this era produced some absolutely fantastic timeless music and a lot my favourite bands started out around this time. It's this music which also influenced the progressive rock and hard rock of the 70's, which I also love.

The Beatles of course are probably the most famous, not all of their songs are psychedelic but they dabbled in it for a few years as did a lot of the bands in the day, The Rolling Stones and early Pink Floyd too.

I absolutely love Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, The Moody Blues & Procol Harum.

A few examples of classic psychedelic rock (which are my favourites)….

The late sixties was a time when music entered a new phase, it became more visionary.

Gone were the suits and neat haircuts the bands used to have, in came long hair, outlandish clothes, and the Hippy generation. A lot of the music was drug inspired in those times, but so is some of the music nowadays. Some of the music and performers of that age, have become legends/cult figures. Just take a look at some of the original Woodstock footage, there won't be anything like that again, it was a one off.

I like some of that sixties music, it defined an era, to a certain extent it changed the World. 40 years on, people still talk about Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles, Stones, etc.
