KS987
You know the one: "Snape kills Dumbledore" Happened to me on a pro wrestling board on Gamefaqs of all places, around the time the book came out(I was a lurker at the time who occasionally went there, and didn't create an account until much later). It was some topic called "Triple H is the greatest wrestler of all time", in which in the topic the poster didn't list any reason for his claim and just simply said "Yeah/Yep" or something similar. The very second posted contained the spoiler, and the third poster responded "Dude, you are a total ass". So had I just avoided that completely pointless topic, I could have avoided the spoiler. Any other people who have fallen victim to it?
vida
Oh wow, I would have been really REALLY upset about it if it had been me.Upset to the point to ask a Mod to take some action against that person. I became quite a reclusive on the days prior to the books coming out, and even moreso while i was reading them, so I could avoid being spoiled. When news about Deathly Hallows being leaked came out, I switched off my TV until I was done reading the book!No internet for me either, though I was afraid someone from work or something would make a comment unintentionally...Such a paranoid i was... Antares
If I remember correctly, I was quite late reading the Half Blood Prince, so I couldn't expect to avoid all spoilers. Luckily enough, "Snape kills Dumbledore" was pretty much all I knew before I read it. And that's not too bad, actually, as the real mistery is why Snape kills him. I suspected all along there may be more to this incident than meets the eye. Obviously, Snape would want to uphold his disguise as a death eater, but killing Dumbledore seemed like too much of a price to pay. I lacked one piece of information to fully understand what was going on: Dumbledore was going to die anyway, as was revealed late in the last book.
padfoot
I bought HBP within the first few days and didn't have a problem. However, I heard quite a few spoilers for DH (Even though I bought it in a few days too I think) Spoilers containing half/the majority of the main characters that died, which sucked. I remember some people being so rude and posting it all over the net, thinking they were cool.

KS987
I would imagine moderators that read Harry Potter had absolutely no chance to avoid it, as they had to delete spoiler topics and obviously saw them.
