Director Rob Reiner thinks Emma Watson is talented :)

Yup. This all exists EVERYWHERE. You say "They even have now computer programs, able to find out "copy and paste" pieces in your written stuff" like this is some new technology, but it ISN'T. This has been SUPER common since before I was even in high school. You can just GOOGLE "plagiarism checker" and find one. This isn't exclusively for online students. You have to do a presentation of ANY thesis you submit, for the same reason. Sources need to be cited in EVERY assignment you hand in. Even if you attend EVERY lecture.

Also, one of my good friends is an Austrian university student and hers doesn't really work this way, which shows that there must be a quite a few different systems in the world. However, I have no doubt that a school like Brown has one of the more rigorous systems.

My friend works for F1 and so she obviously travels for work (nearly every week... and on weeks she's off she travels to other places for fun), but she still does a lot of stuff. I'm fairly sure Emma could have easily done school work while travelling.

Again, you're very removed from universities it seems. I mean, the experience of uni is GREAT. Making friends who have similar interests to you, attending lectures and such is actually super rewarding. Typically you only live with a "grumpy roommate" in your first year when you are assigned dorms, and then you live with friends. Distance learning does usually take a bit longer (i.e. 5 years instead of 4, just like in Emma's case) so many students would like to do the full course load in less time. Plus, distance learning is significantly more difficult since a lot of it is self directed. There's support, obviously, but you still need to be incredibly self motivated to achieve deadlines on time since you're not a set schedule of lectures, labs, conferences and whatnot. It's not really cheaper... tuition will cost about the same (but a bit more if you're taking more time to finish your degree... you pay for the extra semesters, obviously). If you're attending university or not it still costs money to live-- you'll be paying for an apartment and bills and whatnot regardless.

Also, more students are probably doing online learning than you think. Not necessarily their whole degree (because, again, the experience and whatnot) but plenty of people I know will do online classes. My friend goes to McGill University (which is a very high ranking university in Canada-- ranks considerably higher than Brown http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/mar/06/worlds-top-100-universities-2014-reputations-ranked-times-higher-education) and she does a large portion of hers... also doing a degree in English.

Can I just hug you and love you?

You may. :)

Also, in re: why everyone isn't doing distance education: Why does ANYONE do anything the same way as the majority of people? Because it is the DONE THING. A lot of people don't really think of how they best learn things. Many people finish high school and see a traditional university setting as the next logical step. THIS WILL CHANGE. Just as much of our world changes as technology advances, you will see more and more people partaking in exclusively online/digital education. But right now, it's still rather obscure, in the grand scheme of things.

All I know from people I know, and from my own experience, people go on campus for the experience.

ALOT of people take online classes who are older and work and have families.

From my own experience, being on campus is a lot easier because you aren't on your own. I appalled anyone who does online classes because they require a lot more work. You not only have to teach yourself, but you also have to do all the assignments.

For exams, the only oral exam I have ever had to perform was for my french class. Every other exam I had to be on campus to take the exam.

I'm sure if Emma had to be on campus for her exam, she would take a day or two to take them. It's really not hard.

I'm very tired and don't even know of this makes sense at all but I tried

Once again for someone who ATTENDED USA colleges I will explain. This time I really want the foolish person to LISTEN. When you attend a US COLLEGE, there is such thing as TAKING CLASSES ON LINE as my friends and I are currently doing. We have to do this silly thing called WORK to earn money which Emma was doing too SINCE THAT IS HER JOB. This is what I think we as non-celebrity world don't realize. Yes celebrities such as actors, actresses, and sports athletes earn a boatload of money but they still WORK and it is their JOB. But getting back to Emma what this guy doesn't seem to get : EMMA CHOSE TO ATTEND COLLEGE. She was not told or forced or convinced- SHE chose of her own free will. Let's face it-Emma and Rupert and Dan could have retired 20 times over all before their 18th birthdays. But getting back to schools-my cousin's best friend is working to pay her way thru college so she is not getting much campus life as she takes courses on line. She is hoping to get to experience more campus life next year. But in the meantime, she is attending some classes while others are on line. So please to that person who is not even from the US, do not discuss things you don't know anything about. Also most schools here in the US do the whole on line thing now that technology is so expanded.

Elena TRUE THAT!!!!!!!! ;)

Ashley, we have ALL given up asking why he is here. Just either ignore the ignorant person or keep arguing with him. My best advice though is to completely ignore.
