Mrs Duck
Short background story which explains the topic: Was watching TV with my grandfather (who I live with) just now when a show from the biggest Circus in Sweden came on. To my horror one wild animal after another came on the stage to preform. Seals, elephant, camels... also lamas and highland cattle. I found myself crying in pure anger at the cruelty to keep wild animals in such horrible conditions as in a circus and make them completely go against their nature and preform on a stage in front of hundreds of people. It's year 2011 and modern society and normal people still accept this sort of things? There is no law to prevent this? I'm so sad and furious about this I had to start this topic and see if other people are as horrified about this as I am, or might have a different perspective on this. ckravitz
It makes a lot of money, that's why it still goes on
honeytinkle
Of course they make money of it, but it's still seems wrong. But I don't know, maybe they know what they're doing and that's why they can keep going. Is circus so big anymore? I know they forbid circuses to have monkeys and lions, but I don't know about the rest.
ckravitz
Of course they make money of it, but it's still seems wrong. I, personally, never liked circuses. I always thought them to be a waste of time. I meant to put this before: the only other "atmosphere" I can see an animal in besides a household or the wild is for science purposes (i.e. disease research, sickness, etc.). I don't agree with "animal testing" (i.e. household product testing).

Mrs Duck
really they still make circus's with animals? i didnt know thatthe circus that is really well known is Crique du Soleil i think everyone will enjoy itand they dont use animals they show what the human body is capable of doing and they are AMAZING!Thats's what surprised me too. I thought they still had dogs and horses and domestic animals but no way I had thought they still used wild animals! My big hope is that the circus is a dying industry, people get more and more difficult to entertain and the circus really isn't that amazing. Possibly believe in a circus that stays put, not the travelling kind. But really all I wish for is a law that forbids them from keeping wild animals. I mean the law says I can't have an elephant at home, what makes me have one any different from a circus having one? It's sick. Edited January 8, 2011 by Mrs Duck
Emmas Friend
I have never been a fan of the Circus, I've never been to one, and I don't intend to.I never have liked the use of wild animals as a form of entertainment, it demeans the animal, and in some cases makes them look stupid. It just shows how arrogant man can be sometimes.I thought, I may be wrong though, that some years ago there was an outcry over this, and a lot of Circuses had to ditch their wild animal acts. I don't no whether there was an outright ban or not.Anyway, I think they are an outdated form of entertainment today, with a bit of luck, they will all be forced to close down, due to lack of public support.
