  1. I think that's just the perception of people not from here -- they equate a southern/hick accent as sounding American. The same goes for actors here in America. If they're asked to play someone in flyover country they always have the generic southern/hick accent not realizing that someone from Georgia sounds different than someone from Louisiana sounds different from someone from Kentucky sounds different than someone from Alabama sounds different from someone from Oklahoma sounds different from someone from Tennessee and so on.

  2. I love to read, so it's pretty hard to choose top 5 :/ but here it goes :

    1. Bringing down the house by Ben Mezrich

    2. Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

    3. Easy to Kill by Agatha Christie

    4. The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King

    5. Angels and demons by Dan Brown

ooooooo Shawshank. Good choice. Also one of the best films ever made. And that's not hyperbole.

  3. That does suck for the taxpayers. Kinda like when they had the funeral/memorial for Michael Jackson and the taxpayers had to foot the bill for that and California was already deeply in the hole financially even before the whole Jackson thing. It was just pouring good money after bad.

The news is hardly registering over here. I saw a blurb about it on one of the 24 hour news stations the other day but the sound was turned down. The Deathly Hallows is bigger news over here. Heck, Emma might as well be royalty as much as us Americans are infatuated with her.

  4. 'He ended it when Ireland were a hundred and sixty points ahead, the idiot!'

'He knew they were never going to catch up.' Harry shouted back over all the noise, also applauding loudly, 'the Irish Chasers were too good ... he wanted to end it on his terms, that's all ... '

It's been a while since I've read the books but this strategy makes absolutely no sense. Your team is behind 160 pts. You catch the snitch and lose the game by 10 points. Wait to see if you team scores a goal, then if you catch it you tie. If your team scores two goals and you catch it then you win.

As far as the points are concerned, this makes sense. It's like NASCAR, you may not win the final race but if you win the points then your are the cup champion.

  5. I never really understood the historical context of Le Mis so I should probably see it again. :)

You need to understand the emotional context of the characters more than anything. The historical context is just the background. Although interesting it just provides a setting - at least for the musical. It's the characters that make the show.

  6. Goals aren't worth much and capturing the snitch is worth 150 points which ends the game and the team that captures the snitch is most often the winning team. So in essence, all the other stuff is just window dressing. The game is actually between the two seekers. 9 times out of 10 if you just had the two seekers on the pitch trying to catch the snitch and got rid of everybody else, the outcome would be the same as if you did have all the players.
