  1. Interestingly enough, there are a lot (and the numbers are growing) of students coming from mainland China to study at my uni. Most of them are in their graduate levels but some are still undergrads. I think my uni has an exchange program with several Chinese schools but I'm not sure. (I know we do have an exchange program with Dongguk University in Seoul, South Korea; I missed the application deadline to study there this semester by a week <_<)

Oh really,Im sorry to hear you missed the application.Because exchange program is a good way to expand horizon.I applied the program in my school and flew to France last summer. And I really had a nice time there taking courses, tourring around and picking up some French.

I know many Chinese students pour in to the United States. Not quite clear about the precise number in mainland China of overseas students, but I believe that 30% students around me here in Shanghai have the will to go overseas(US is a destination for most of them)My cousin is in Purdue. He started his American studying life when he was 15 I believe.

  2. Hello everyone!

I thought this topic should be placed in school section, but General Chat seems to get more people. So I post it here.I dont mind you shift or delete it if it is not suitable here. This thread is created to find language partners.

I went to Spain last summer, and became quite interested in Spainish and its culture. But I know no Spainish people around me to teach their language and back to Shanghai with a litte regret. :icontwisted8pz: So Im wondering if anyone here from Spain or speaks Spainish as first language and have interest to communicate. Please pm me.I dont use the language for some urgent purposes, just interest. It feels good talking in a new language isnt it? :ohyeah:

So if you have the same need or willing to teach others your language,do reply.Thank you!

  3. If the university you chose is actually a place where you feel good - then why having a change in mind? :P

I had a quick conversation with one of my professors about this.

He said a possible reason to change the university is based on the fact, that the bachelor is rather a degree for work while master is for scientific research.

So in case an other university supports the scientific research aspect more than the current one then this might be a reason.

I have to agree with Dax: "Just a friendly reminder though, graduate classes are a lot harder and require more time than undergrad, so be sure you can handle the work load. "

    Keep that in mind!

Yeah I quite agree with you.I dont like the academic atomosphere here in my university,so I finally made decision to get a master degree overseas after graduation, probably in Australia.

  4. you can't know if that's how she is all the time though. you know the act she puts on for cameras not how she is in real life with her friends.

everyone knows that once the camera's come on you totally change your personality.

yeah.agreed!what you see is quite superficial. And you will never know whats behind the screen

  5. I know we have many different nationalities on these forums, and I would like to ask you something about language education in your country. What languages are taught at school? Are people overall good at English?

Foreigners often say that Dutch people are very good at languages. It is true most of us speak English quite well, if I may say so. In secondary education, Dutch, English, French, German and sometimes Spanish are taught. In grammar school, from which I recently graduated, one also follows Latin and Ancient Greek (I did the latter).

So how is this in your country? Are foreign languages taught and spoken well?

When I saw this topic,i know that i HAVE to come in.

I agree with you. When I transferred my flight in Amsterdam,I felt no obstacle to communicate with Dutch people in english, and i believe that they can understand me well.Really no offence I mean, things became quite opposite in France and Spain.Problems always occurred when I wanted to buy something.I can just speak few French words like bonjour, merci or oui.I thought the Europeans were all fairly good at english. But it turned out to be a misjudgment.

In Shanghai,we learn English as the first foreign language. But the problem is that,we lack oral practice, because the education and examination system forces students to concentrate more on the written part.

Besides,we cant compare the english teaching models in different countries for we have different first language. It is said that people who are native German speakers(sorry if im mistaken.im not 100% sure of it)tend to learn english more easily.but i have to claim that, people in shanghai speak Shanghainese whose pronounciation is a mixture of chinese and english. And i regard it as my first language.

  6. Hi All ! i was just wondering who is your favourite HP actor, why, ? and your favourite pic of them. :)

of course everyone love dan, rupert and emma. <3 as i do to.

but recently, with Snape's story and the incredible sacrifice and beauty behind it, for today...im going with alan rickman. :)

You throw a difficulty to me huh.We all love Emma,Rupert and Dan,so i wanna say someone out of the leading roles. But whether Tom Felton or Alan Rickman is a problem.

For Tom Felton,I just cant get my eyes off him when I see his picture. The guy boasts such an arresting and gorgeous look that you cant forget him after seeing him for the first time.

And for Alan Rickman,I love his voice and accent!
