  1. Well, I finally saw the Circle and although, I really wish the ending was a tad longer, I don't get the hate.

Me too : saw it and I, too, don't understand the hate. It's far to be the sh*ttiest movie of the year, as it seemed to be when you read Rotten Tomatoes.

I thought the acting was good and the story was well done. It reminded me a bit of the TV show "Black Mirror." I love Mae. Her character was really complex. She went in looking for answers to help her family, was easily manipulated by the company (kind of like a cult) and then got revenge.

I really really enjoyed it. I also thought it was going to be farther into the future, and I'm glad it wasn't. It made the thriller part better. Advanced technology creeps me out and this technology def creeped me out....

I guess that's part of the problem for many people.

    1) It's not very scary, not so much suspense, just things happening one after the other, I wouldn't call it a thriller

    2) People compare to Black Mirror and see a bland version of it. I didn't watch BM but read reviews, BM is always coming back as a comparison and I guess it succeeded to be what The Circle aimed but missed to become...

...if that makes sense. Sorry sometimes I just wish I could record my voice, I'm more a spoken than written person.

    __

I was a bit disturbed by the fact that Mae is always changing her mind. Only stupid people don't change their mind, I know, but she starts from being critical and aware, then in a day she goes the opposite way. That was a bit tough to follow.

Also, I have to admit I must have missed a bit of the meaning of the movie because I didn't have the subtitles, but I didn't get what really happened to her best girl friend.

On a more positive note, I'm glad we have a movie with Emma being this present and with so much dialogue. I'm tired of having her on screen saying nothing, being pretty (yes, even in HP).

  2. It's a bit sad she's not doing the B&B thing till the end. It's not the biggest show of the year but then B&B is not Golden Globes or Oscar worthy, so the "fans award" would have been nice, especially when she gets 4 awards. She could have sung the song.

I just wonder what's happening, cause if I remember well she said in an interview (I believe the long one on facebook, the 40min long one) that taking the job was no joke as she had to be able to promote the movie, sing the songs, etc ... Many things around just actually acting in the movie. (If I remember well she said that when people asked about Lala Land and the fact people doubted her ability to sing and handle the role). So she knew there had to be public appearances, like when Frozen came out Kristen sang with a live orchestra for Disney, etc.

Well, the movie's out, and we have nothing. We had the premieres, because of course... And that's all.

Don't misunderstand me, I follow Emma since many years and i'm not just a foolish fan believing in unicorns, I read/know/understand she just can't stand the star system anymore, she wishes to stay as lowkey as she can, she just would like to spread knowledge and have interesting conversations instead of silly interviews (yes, sometimes the questions are just repetitive and bland). So I know that, that's not what I mean when I say "I wonder what's happening". I mean that for a high budget Disney production, she must have signed a big contract implying she had to do all this, the other work, not just behind the camera.

Oh and please don't read my message as if I was bitter, I admit I'm a bit disappointed cause I admire her work for feminism and I wish I heard more of her, but I'm just here putting questions and thoughts I have in mind, I'm not angry or anything.

  3. Some of you might hate me for opening a topic on something that is almost 10 years old, but the forum seems to have opened in 2010...

Guys I had to share with you the fact that for reasons I can hardly understand myself, among the hundreds (thousand?) of looks Emma has provided, the look for the UK HBP premiere in 2009 is one of my all time favorite of hers.

I just have love and admiration for that first picture below  :lostit:

  4. I'm starting to get scared of that myself.

I don't know how many people are on Tumblr on this site but there's been A LOT of Emma hate ever since Beauty and the Beast came out.

Oh really? I'm not there often and I only pay attention to the fan art and pictures. Is it because they don't like her interpratation?

On watsonuncensored there is a discussion about her acting skills on the last post which is really interesting. Seems like she can do great but is often constant in her acting. She seems nervous on camera and has few ranges of emotions (like she only know one way to show exitment by screaming with the same scream).

  5. Really?! Ugh it looks so good tho!

Although I guess I really just have to judge for myself. :/

Sure, I always judge for myself as I often really like movies considered not to be good.

Like I analysed Tom Hanks 's movie ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, I loved some negatively reviewed movies of him.

I however wished she had a strong resumé, I'm scared of her becoming an actress not recognized and not appreciated for her talent.

  6. Did someone see the movie in the US?

I saw that in France it's coming late in July! On the 19th to be exact (source Allociné http://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=234164.html)

I however went to see the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it's dreadful  :sob:  :0_0:

    https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_circle_2017/

I'm sad for Emma, she didn't get so many good reviews for her movies. I mean, Natalie Portman started with a full load of great movies acclaimed by the critic, I wished the same for Emma.

  7. Sorry, but what point are you trying to make here? Were you trying to get across that I am bragging? Sorry if I am ;(

I'm not saying you are bragging, I'm just cautious because many people just don't have the money to have it all. It can be hurtful to see pics/read descriptions of things you dream of but can't have!
