  1. I'd often thought of joining a gym, I'd use the treadmill and bikes a lot. Then I thought "there are plenty of roads and I've got plenty of bikes". Didn't see the point.

I would like to be able to use a rowing machine lots though

    Haha you're right !

I hate running so I have a membership too at a gym, and I love the elliptic machines. For me it's way softer and funnier than running. I also go to different class with the coaches, which helps me stay focus and motivated.

  2. I don't play but I often watched my friends and my brother play. I like this sport because i feel there is a lot of fair play and a good spirit that I don't see in Football for example.

  3. oh yes!

I've did so much different like: latina, ballroom dancing, modern, go-go and even strip-plastic :P

I've always loved dancing but I was always shy to dance on public but I danced, danced, danced all the time when I was home alone, learning random choreography and felt the music. As far as I rememberI did folklore singing but had to dance there as well. I quit it b/c I couldn't stand wearing those stupid dresses and singing stupid songs. I've heard there was a hot guy giving dance lessons in our neighborhood so I went there with the girls, lasted there for a few years. Things were amazing but tough, oh so tough! Even tho he was damn hot, he treated   us bad, we overworked, stayed at the studio till 10 pm

and he was very angry if we did sth wrong, he had a stick and bit our legs with that >.< but I rly liked the stretching classes! every saturday, even tho they were rly STRETCHING, we couldn't walk afterwards, it was effective. And the teacher (woman) was lovely. And that male teacher had a gf, who was also a dancer and they always danced in the studio showing us,we enjoyed it and wanted to look like them. Then in a while I decided to do modern dancing. (his co-worker as well) We were competing, giving concerts regullary and the most great thing about it is was dancing on a footballfield! That was an action I must say, a huge field, lots of of ppl and all cams on you and you're on tv! We were waving flowers and flags, then we sat and watched the match and everytime someone scored a goal, we were supposed to stand up and wave the flowers, as a wave it looked rly beautiful. I was sooooo nervous xD Oh my xD if only I remember how hard we trained, without shoes on that grass dancing in heat again and again. But that's deffinately the best thing to remember.

Then I did go-go, which is nice cause it contains lots of styles and genres. You just hear the music and dance to it. we always danced on things like city concerts, holidays and stuff. Well what is a go-go girl? entertainer.

Then I did some strip-plastic (erotic dance without stripping with elements of private dancing, chair dancing) dancing to this slow music gives you confidence in your sexuality, which a woman needs.

    tell me about it -.-

Don't you have videos of all that ??? :D

I've been dancing for 11 years. I'm doing a break because my body is not in shape and that forbids me to progress. Last year my teacher was more a dancer than a teacher =/ Dancing with us all the time during class, so he was not correcting us at all. I need to feel the progress in class, otherwise i'd stay in my room ! ^^

I practice modern-jazz and love lyrical jazz. I wish to acheive a high level, but it's hard because I do not dedicate my time at dancing, as I do many things during my weeks. Moreover, the dance school of my town is a small school, so le level is not that high. I always had the level they asked, I was often even better because it was a passion for me and not for the other girls =/ But it's still not enough for me to have the dream level I see in many videos haha

  4. Hi guys !

I saw this picture tonight, I never saw it before. Because I saw it via a fansite, I think it's Emma, but I'm not 100% sure. Can you tell ?

EDIT : I must say, I'm almost sure it's Emma and feel stupid to ask the question, but BECAUSE i never saw it before, and because it was never posted elsewhere from now on, I'm surprise and that makes me doubt.

Emma inspires me often...here she is this multi millionaire actress who can retire like 20 times over by now and not only does she continue to work, but she is getting her college degree (something she doesn't need but is choosing to get). She also is an inspiration with how she uses her twitter to spread word about social issues. She is always a class act when the media is hounding her and the paps are in her face. She also is probably one of the most grounded down to earth actresses I have ever seen. Up and coming young actresses should be looking to Emma as their role models.

I totally agree with you and understant you. She's kind of a model for me because of her choice to go to college, because of the way she explains she lives her life. I actually believe her and believe what she says in her interviews. Some people (in this forum of elsewhere) think she tells b***s**t for some reasons, I felle it's because they don't understand her.

I can relate to what she explains, for example in class, you shine for your smart talks and interventions, not for your look and reputation. That's the same for me, if you suck in maths you are disrespected for that.

She said also something that went directly to my heart :
Emma Watson : It’s interesting, because people say things to me like, “It’s really cool that you don’t go out and get drunk all the time and go to clubs,†and I’m just like, I mean, I appreciate that, but I’m kind of an introverted kind of person just by nature, it’s not like a conscious choice that I’m making necessarily. It’s genuinely who I am. Have you seen Quiet by Susan Cain?
    Rookie : No!
Emma Watson : It discusses how extraverts in our society are bigged up so much, and if you’re anything other than an extravert, you’re made to think there’s something wrong with you. That’s like the story of my life. Coming to realize that about myself was very empowering, because I had felt like "Oh my god, there must be something wrong with me because I don’t want to go out and do what all my friends want to do".

Well I feel exactly the same way, and that's why I understand her so much. but I believe that for those who never felt the same, it feels like unreal or "playing smart", I don't know...
So anyway, she inspires me for who she is, for the fact that she took the time to figure out who she is. I try to do the same, to work on myself the same way : we are looking for happiness and peace of mind.

  6. I absolutely REFUSE to carry a backpack now that I am in Uni. I hate them so instead I use a huge tote. Its literally HUGE because I am an Art major and need tons of supplies.

I understand you, as I am also in the University.

However, bacause I had a lot of books, notebooks/exercecice books, and i had to carry my computer (a little netbook but still heavy for my shoulder), I finished by asking for a backpack for Christmas. Something I find beautiful and not so childish or not a sport-backpack. Somethin that corresponds to who I am (i have no style).

I now have this one :

I don't feel the weight of my books and computer now ! that's perfect ^^

  7. Sad thing is most people would go to a uni vs. going to a community college or online college just for the girls, haha.

What is the difference between the Uni and the Community College ?

I loved school, because I love to learn. But during middle school (11 to 14 years old, we call it "le collège" in French, before High School "le lycée"), I hated the people because some of them were mean to me for some reasons. It's not bullying but almost - bad comments because I were dressing differently, because I had good grades, because I had protruding ears... I felt I was misunderstood - and I finished by thinking they were almost all stupid and immature xD

  8. Hi everyonce  :D I think the title is clear enough ! are you inspired by Emma ? How ? To do what ?

As far as I am concerned, she inspired me to start a diary of my dreams. I thought it was a great idea, and when I read about her several diaries, I thought it was smart to do so. It will make her keep her memories of who she is and was during her life.

It reminded me of a friend of mine who writes herself letters to read at her birthday several years later. That was a funny idea at first, but in the end you see yourself evolving as a personn, and I believe it's a frightening but great thing to do.

  9. I said : Yes , with EW in mind

I think it's a lovely name and I often think of calling my future daughter Emma (if I have children - not in the future ten years !!)

However, as I'm a lot influenced by Emma Watson, I think I'd prefer to give it as a second or 3rd name, and I'd prefer to give my children original names like mine - at least, original in France, uncommon i mean.

Also, as common as it is, I don't know any Emma ! I believe it's not a name of my generation (born in 1992), I think it's often given since ~2000 in France.

  10. Honestly, when I saw the first picture of her with short hair, it was on emmawatson.net and I hated it.

I discovered later that actually, I hated the picture, and I loved her hair cut ! (As you can see on my avatar  :yesyes: )

I love and admire women that have short hair but still manage to be feminine. I fell it's empowering.

That's why i often though of doing it myself, because I envy those women who do it. But I'm not courageous enough and I like my long hair, so not for now !

  11. Zain

Well there are rumors about her doing “Queen of the Tearling.†Filming a blockbuster would take up almost all of her free time.. I guess she'll have to miss a few more semesters.
BTW, didn't Emma say that she doesn't want to be a part of big franchise for a while?  :sweatdrop:
It's really hard to understand her lately..  :( seems like she says one thing and does something else entirely.

    @Zain

You put in the same sentence "rumor" and "invented facts" that are just assumptions YOU made. Why are you worriying about something that has not been officially said ? For each project she made she twitted a little something about it. So wait, and we will see.

As for college, I believe we should wait and see. Sometimes the last years are not consequent in terms of hours spent in the University, it's sometimes a lot of work at home. Maybe she can manage both filming and education. Moreover, if she misses one semester, maybe she'll do it in january ?

I believe she was serious and honnest about what she said on education, and I'm sure she'll fine the time to do it, for the self-respect she has. Better late than never !

    Jonny Carinthia

A discussion about the fact, that she is saying one thing and behaving later in the complete opposite way is, what is called here, "the right to change her mind".

    @Jonny

I agree on that ! even though I'm wondering if it's not just a matter of delaying more than changing her mind.

  12. @Dook
I watched videos of the MIT, but for example in a 1h video of differential equations, I'll learn 5 new words or ways to say something. That's not enough  Well at least I discovered that in the USa people use the "dy dx" very differently than we do in France.

But thank you for your link, I think it can be very useful !

I also need to know about the theorems. For example, my last project in maths/english made me look for the english way to write Thales' theorem. On wiki I discovered that the english theorem called "Thales' theorem" is a variant of the theorem that we call Thales' theorem in french. That's why books with the lessons and the exercices would be great.

    @Dax

thank you you make me realise that saying "english speaking country" is not very clear, however we don't have any better instruction for our examination...

Is required a knowledge on the different approaches depending on the cultures and the different countries. So in english it's the USA, the GB and it could even be Australia, etc...

However, I must say that in France, in european sections we focus on the USA and the GB. That's a wide programm !

I believe that if I know about the differences between France/USA/GB it'll be okay, I must show that I don't use english as a translation of french (I actually hate when that's how we learn english), that I care about the other cultures, that I wish to share a passion and an interest on the other cultures. (I actually do)

This is why books would be interesting for be because it shows the evolution in the programm, the logic of the programm, and what's required at what level.

I need both cultural material and vocabulary.

Thank you for your link and helping, I quite didn't know where to start with !

  13. Hi everyone !

So here's a weird title for something weird too. I will try to explain why I need your help. Just to start with, because I will talk about the French school system, I'm sory if I'm not clear enough, because there is no real translation, just equivalents.

I have in France a degree in Mathematics (a "licence", equivalent of Bachelor Degree) and this year I'm training for the national competitive examination to be a math teacher for people from 11 to 18 years old. I'll belong to the national education system if I succeed :)

In the system, I can obtain special certifications in order to  practice differently and to lead special projects with our classes. It means that I have to take a special exam, and if I get the minimum grade of 10/20 that's ok, I pass.

So basically, after becoming a teacher, I wish to have a certification in English in order to be able to teach math in English in what we call "european sections" in Middle School and High School.

I'm still working on my English (unfortunately you can't see because I'm way better when I speak than when I write !), but I certainly have the level required for French schools. For those familiar with the Common European Framework of Reference for Language, I'm C1 (which is way higher than the French average level XD).

But my problem is that, in order to obtain at least 10/20, I must master maths in English, just the way it's teached in English speaking-countries

I already worked a little with maths in english, but in order to learn I need to take back from the early grades where I can learn the pronunciation and stuff like that. I want my math in english to become natural ! I understand maths books for my level, but I need to think maths in english... I would like to find books that are used for the kids at school. And that's where I need you !

I have no idea how to get those books. In French it's already hard to get them because any search on Amazon leads to books helping for homework. I would like to have the "teacher book" used in class, to see americans or English people learn. I don't have any idea what can be the name of such books. For example I was typing "maths book 6th grade" but got nothing I wanted...  Can you guys give me references of books ?

    Thanks,

    Tess

  14. Mr. Pumpkinhead

JKR produced 7 incredible books in the HP series, so I have little doubt that she could do the same for a movie spin off.

I agree with you ! It's HER world, HER characters, everything we love so deeply comes from her mind.

And I must say that the HP movies were sometimes disapointeing for me because I found the script badly written. Here she's not writing the book and leaving the script to someone else, she writes the script ! That's something completely different, and honeslty, I believe it can be GREAT.

  15. The video made me laugh, it was so ridiculous I hopes it wasa joke, and fortunately it was !!!

I don't really know what to say about the others... I know about non-perfect manucures, but here we are FAR from that, are those girls blind or what ?? Better no manucure than what is on those pictures haha

  16. A lot of names get lost in translation, and if I hadn't read the English versions of the books, I would have get lost as well.

Well in French, a lot of names have been translated but it respects the meaning in some ways. Isn't it the same in arabic ?

I believe that they had to translate the names otherwise we wouldn't have understood the "joke" about it or the essence of JK's work.

Oh, about that, I wanted to tell you something that maybe you don't know.

Voldemort is the name of Tom in both French and English versions of the book. Actually, it took me some time to realise something :

for non French people, Voldemort has no special meaning I guess, but it's actually a mix of French words. It literally means "Theft of death" in French (un vol = a theft, de = of, mort = death). Because it's a "French name", we don't have a translation, wich is a reason why some French people find this name ridiculous. Imagine if the greatest fear of all times was named "Theft of death", it's like a spoiler's inside the name, which doesn't make him as scary and mysterious as he may be in other languages. I guess it's because JK speaks French fluently.

It reminds me of "Dark Vader" which means Dark Father in Dutch, it's a spoiler inside the character for all Dutch people discovering the movie ! (I learn that with the movie Pitch Perfect, I plead guilty ! haha)

For some spells also, JK was inspired by Latin words, that we easily understand in French as Latin is the basis of our language. It makes some spells sound quite ridiculous, or as if she was uninspired to create them.

Another fun fact : in French, Snape = Rogue. In French it's close to the meaning of rude, sharp, so I guess it's not a bad translation... And well, guess what is the name of Rihanna's last perfume ? xD

Imagine you see that picture with "SNAPE" written on it !

It made me laugh, and I thought about buying it just to have some kind of Harry Potter memory (then I realised that I must be the only one laughing as Rogue is not Rogue in English ^^)

  17. Thank you for your answers !

I know that it's a matter of translation, and the translator's choice, but sometimes it bothers me when I remember that JK Rowling studied in France, so she knows about those differences in other languages, I'm sure she has an opinion on it !  :yesyes:

I understand your point when you say that harry knew Lupin as a teacher before becoming a "close acquaintance".

But you see in different languages there isn't even the same logic. They didn't understand how much it made our life, they didn't care ! haha They should have worked on it with closer attention (though I believe the French translation is good).

Elena, I don't believe it's "mistakes" because the english book doesn't give any information on that, so a choice had to be made in other languages. I don't know how much Rowling can influence a translation, if she has any connection with the translators or not.
