  1. I came across this amazing post in reddit, one of the best I have ever read about the R/Hr relationship.

It talks about how bickering forms an important part of their relationship to balance out each others flaws.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/comments/3940zv/in_defense_of_ron_and_hermione_arguing/

Why don't all the people out there who chastise R/Hr for their constant arguments see through and realize the importance of them bickering?

I think the movies played its part as it showed Hr as a perfect superwoman while reducing Ron to a mere sidekick.

  2. @ Romione_Sim.

Yeah, that's the best thing to do. Lets forget that there was even a book called Cursed Child. For me the Harry Potter series ends on Platform 9 3/4 19 years after the war.

By the way I watched the Fantastic Beasts movie. It was pretty good I liked it a lot. I have'nt read the book, but I heard that it doesn't have much of a relation with the book.

I think JKR herself handling the screenplay instead of Kloves made a whole lot of difference.

Personally, I do not like the HP movies much compared to the books (except for the first 2) since it deviated too much away from the book and for making Ron a mere side-kick. I still remember how furious I became when I watched the PoA movie in which one of Ron's character defining moments was stolen and given to Hermione: "If you need to kill Harry, you need to kill us too"

  3. I usually don't like fan fiction unless they are very true to canon and if the characters stay true to character.

But I was simply bowled over by this great work by a RHR shipper who compiled together many chapters of missing Ron and Hermuone moments from all books.

    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6922387/1/Moments

What I liked the most was how Ron and Hermione are perfectly Ron and Hermione in her stories.

Chapters 1,2,6.15 and 29 are some of my favourites.

This FF has got rave reviews from many users and is totally worth reading.

Unfortunately, the author stops midway through Deathly Hallows and she has'nt updated her story for 3 years now. Hope she comes back and finishes the story.

  4. I have started re-reading the 'original books' just so as to forget this entire cursed child saga.

Yes, the R/Hr moments were fine, but there are far too many things to dislike about the book that I do not even want to accept this book as canon. I found all characters except Ginny and Prof McGonagall behaving out of character.

I totally hated the fact was Ron was made to look just like a sidekick  for comic relief passing stupid jokes in the worst of circumstances. I just do not think he would ever gift a love potion to anyone after what one such thing did to him.

I hated the fact that Hermione was made the Minister of Magic just to fit her into the plot. I do not think she is the kind of a person who would become a minister, she even says that in the Deathly Hallows Book that "I want to do good for the world"  rather than becoming MoM. She would have been the right choice for head of dept of regulation  and control of magical creatures where she could have taken SPEW forward.

Both Ron and Hermione contribute nothing to the plot, nothing at all, even if you take them away, the plot would still remain the same.

Harry would never ever talk that rudely to his son, never. If at all Albus had this insecurity of being in the shadows of a famous family, the first person who could have helped him out was none other than Ron! He knows very well how to share the limelight with the chosen one, the brightest witch of his generation and his brothers. Ron could have easily helped Albus out, instead the plot goes haywire with the whole time turner thingy.

Scorpius is indeed a likeable character. But I hated how Draco was made to look like a saint. He can never be having a heart to heart conversation with Harry. He gets much more importance than Ron and Hermione.

And I do not want to get started on the whole Voldy Bella thing.

The R/Hr moments were good, but I got a feeling that these moments were all forced to please fans. The moments did not seem natural. Come on! Ron is not stupid enough to get drunk on his wedding day! And I really don't agree with the Yule Ball alternative reality. Yes, Yule Ball was indeed a major turning point in RHr relationship. But even if things had not started happening during Yule Ball, things would have happened later on, because tensions between them was growing. I cannot accept that just because Hermione did not dance with Krum, the relationship would have never happened.

And how could they make Rose look so evil. A child raised by Ron and Hermione, how can she tell Albus on the first day that "They should choose the right friend"?  Is'nt that similar to what Draco warned Harry on his first day on Hogwarts express?

They even had a moment to appease Dramione fans!!!! I can agree with H/Hr shippers that they do have a point, but they chose to appease Dramione shippers! How disgusting!!

I am sorry for the long post friends, I just  want to Obliviate myself to believe that Cursed Child never existed.

  5. Well, I have finished reading what would probably be the last of the original HP stories.. :sigh:

To be honest, I am very disappointed. Yes I had already read all the spoilers beforehand, but I had a hope that things would be better when I read the script. The writing surely did not have the JKR touch. I felt that reading the script leaves out a lot of stuff and you do not get as involved in the story as when you read a novel.  Not to talk about the ordinary plot and plotholes. Many characters seemed to behave out of character.

I liked the R/Hr moments, but, they are no way close to the great moments we had in the original books.

I hope you all get to read the book soon and share your views.

  6. I totally agree with both of your comments.

The reason why we liked Ron and Hermione is because their relatioship was developed very well over the books- both had their flaws- but the transition from the bad start to friendship to  Jealousy and finally falling for each other, was developed very well gradually over the years. I don't think we would have liked the relationship if it was rushed into all of a sudden. Rowling may have decided to pair up Ron and Hermione when she conceptualized the story in the beginning and developed the plot accordingly, but some people think that she forced the relationship to suite her initial plan. However, this doesn't take away the truth that the relationship was developed well. Whether the relationship is realistic or not does not require a debate, because every relationship in real world is different, there are many cases where like minded people get together, there are also many cases where 'opposites attract' hold true. Ron and Hermione are more different compared to Harry and Hermione, yes, I agree. But Ron and Hermione love and care for each other and that the "fundamental incompatibility" - which JKR herself quoted - will not stand as an obstacle to a long term relationship.

Harry and Ginny are well suited for each other, by just looking at their characters,  but the relationship was rushed. Whereas, Ron and Hermione may seem to have incompatabilites if you just look at their characters, but the relationship was developed realistically well, with both Ron and Hermione's flaws playing a big part is slowing down the pace at which they got together, and hence this makes it realistic.

For people who ship Hermione with a 3rd person other than Ron or Harry - they are just in a world of their own and hence no point in arguing with them.

    Regarding Cursed Child:

I have read spoilers in detail. including scene by scene descriptions, and I must say that the plot is a huge disappointment, even the RHr moments are no saving grace. There are many scenes/dialogues in the play which purely seem to be meant for fan service, and many Out of Character dialogues/behavior by characters. Ron and Hermione - especially Ron - have no major role to play at all, and 'some other character(s) who we are not very fond of' have a much larger role to play. There are no trio moments at all. The highlights of the play, apparently, are the effects and the performances of actors. But we will never be able to appreciate this without watching the play.

I would still buy the script, I am such a crazy Potterhead, but when I read the script, I am sure I would never be able to accept this as the 8th book in the series, even though JKR would want us to believe it as canon. It would just seem like reading a fan fiction.

  7. After reading all the spoilers, the RHr shipper in me jumps with joy, but as a fan of the Harry Potter series, I am totally disappointed with the plot.

For anyone who wants to have a sneak peek at the RHr moments, here is the link.

I shall share my thoughts on these later when we are allowed to..:)

  8. Welcome to the forum Ronmione..

Glad to see more people joining us here rooting for the best couple in the world. Yes, you are spot on when you said RHr is the only well developed relationship in the entire series. JKR did so well making the relationship evolve from year to year- but it felt very strange when she made some of those comments about the relationship afterwards. Even though she did'nt directly imply anything, such comments were totally unnecessary and blown out of proportion by others.

Anyway, the first previews of Cursed Child part I and II are over, and there are lot of spoilers already out there online. Even though I do not wish to share spoilers here, but I cannot hold myself back from telling you guys that there are some cute RHR moments in the play.

  9. Well, I have no clue about how could Rupert Grint make such a stinging comment about R/Hr relationship, which has left us all RHr shippers gasping.

To be frank, I have always been a book purist. Book Ron and Book Hermione would always stay in my heat as a made for each other couple who definitely had some flaws. An actor who has gelled well with the character he portrays, would have never made such a comment.

  10. Yes, both Ron and Hermione have made mistakes, and that is one of the reasons why I consider this relationship to be a realistic.

Ron should never have channelized his insecurities and frustrations on Hermione. At the same time, Hermione's continuous insistence to Ron that she and Krum were just friends, was wrong. Acts like praising Harry's fanciability right in front of Ron(probably to arouse jealousy), and her comments in the changing room after Ron's Quidditch game in HBP, were gross mistakes. Anyway, all these proved to be learning experiences for the couple to correct their mistakes. Hence, I would like to take JKR's comments on the couple needing relationship counseling in a positive sense, because it makes the relationship much more realistic, after accpeting and trying to work on individual flaws. There is no doubt that Ron and Hermione love each other very well, at the same time, they have to work hard on their relationship, overcoming the differences and rectifying their flaws. This, in my opinion, makes R/Hr stand out as a couple willing to work on their flaws to strengthen their bond, unlike the usual fantasy love story.

JKR probably wanted to quell the R/Hr doubters after the media did a 'Rita Skeeter' of her interview comments. That could be the reason we see 2 huge cute R/Hr moments in the Quidditch World Cup commentary she wrote last year.

    R/HR forever....

  11. Superb posts Mr Pumpkinhead, cbmac.

    Totally agree with you.

It was obvious from CoS that the relationship was blossoming.

I am sure, Hermione was very much aware of Ron's feelings for her, from PoA onwards.

You have one particular scene in the PoA book, which is similar to the awkward shake hands scene in the CoS movie.

When Hermione breaks down hugging Ron after they reconcile, Ron becomes terrified awkwardly patting Hermione, and looked very relieved when she let go of him.

in GoF, Hermione clearly hoped to get invited to the Yule Ball by Ron- she seemed more interested in Ron's comments about his probable dating partner. And Hermione expressed her disappointment very well known by storming off to bed, when Ron clearly indicated he would go with the prettiest girl who would have him! Our poor little insensitive Ron, clearly failed to pick the signal.

I like the whole Yule Ball saga, as it opened Ron's eyes. This was also reciprocated by Hermione's dislike for Fleur and her scowls and frowns when Fleur kissed Ron after the 2nd task, and when Ron tried a bit of flirting with her in the end.

But, it was probably Ron's insecurity and inferiority complex that inhibited him from making a step forward.

Hermione was very well aware of this, but wanted Ron to take the first step by overcoming his demons. That could be the reason why we see the couple bicker too often in OoTP, Ron frustrated at Hermione's contact with Krum, and Hermione equally frustrated at Ron's lack of tact and sensitivity. According to me, R/Hr relationship making very little progress in OoTP, after all that happened in GoF,  is the only flaw I find in the entire relationship.

  12. Thanks friend.

Yes, I love that added scene- the expression of Hermione's face was brilliant.

Today(21st July) is 8 years since we got to know that our dear couple became finally official!

8 years ago, on the same day, the final book was launched. Can't believe it has already been 8 years, time has been flying.

I still remember jumping in elation after finding out that the trio were safe aaaaaand R/Hr finally got together..!!

  13. There are also many subtlle things about R/Hr which I enjoyed a lot like : Aren't you a witch/Aren't you a wizard moments in Book 1 and 7. And how Ron remembers Gamp's Law of Transfiguration in Book 7, from Hermione's explanation even though he was irritated by it And the "Always the tone of surprise" by Hermione to Ron's "Always the tone of surprise" was cute

And as mentioned in the earlier post Ron took to heart what Hermione told him in Book 4 and sure enough did "pluck up the courage and asked her out before someone else does"...

  14. Wow... That's a brilliant post- it sums up everything as to why Ron and Hermione are a great couple!

    Thanks for sharing it.

I always like the way Ron protects and defends Hermione from Malfoy and Snape. And even from Harry's bad temper...

And love the way they both bicker over small issues. If not for their bickering, would this relationship have so much heat?

  15. 9) They bicker a lot.. But if not for their bickering, would this relationship be this engaging? Ron and Hermione care for eacg otger so much that they do not want any differences come their way. And that is why they voice out their differences openly.

They do not take these arguments seriously, evident from the shocked expressions on their faces when Harry expresses his frustration at seeing his two friends constantly bickering(OoTP book)

  16. An excellent blog post which I found in Mugglenet regarding the whole interview saga:

    http://blog.mugglenet.com/2014/02/a-detour-down-knockturn-alley-manipulating-j-k-rowlings-remarks-on-harry-hermione-and-ron/

It is pretty clear how the mainstream media did a Rita Skeeter by totally convoluted JKRs comments.

i still believe that there is nothing wrong with JKRs comments- it is her story and she has every right to share her own perspective. In fact, as I had posted earlier, her comments make the pair even more realistic, taking into account the real issues faced by a married couple who are opposites, but still truly love each other. Harry and Hermione would also have made a potential couple, but it never worked out that way in the books. We all loved Ron and Hermione, beacuse of the way the relationship was portrayed in the books, in a subtle slowly evolving way throughout the series- I dont think we would have liked them if they had been brought together all of a sudden one fine morning. And it is pretty evident from the recent Quidittch commentray snippets that JKR is still a fan of R/Hr, they still remain true to character, and nothing has changed.

I wish that there weren't the convoluted consideration of this relative to the movie adaptation and Jo Rowling's post Potter comments, but unfortunately there are some lightning bolt shaped scars that we just can't get rid of.  >.<  With time I can forget the scar is there but whenever I begin to discuss the ship now it burns like the day it was cast upon our ship. :(

  17. Did you all see the lovely ROMIONE moment in Rita's commentary with Ginny? Too cute ;)

    ROMIONE ROCKS!!!!!! :)

OMG... Thanks for sharing this here cbmac12. Totally missed it..

Yes there are a couple of lovely RHr moments in the commentary.... RHr forever...

@MrPumpkinhead. What cbmac12 referred to is the commentary of the Quidditch final that was published in the Daily Prophet last week. You can read it in Pottermore...

  18. Thank you friends. Humbled by your compliments...:)

The fact that the relationship between the sidekicks of the protagonist of a series which is not a romantic novel, got widespread recognition is a testimony to the relationship....

R/Hr is the best developed relationship in the entire series..

    RHr forever...
