  1. What I feel after reading and re-reading the interview is that, JKR has now made R/Hr relationship look not only believable from the books, but also 100% realistic!!!!. Ron and Hermione had their flaws and yes they were different in many ways, but they were still attracted towards each other, an attraction - not primarly based on phsysical appearance- that slowly but steadily grew over the years. If the R-Hr love story was made to come out of the blue in HBP(like H/G IMO)- I dont think we would have enjoyed it and it would have looked incredulous for  two opposites to fall for each other one fine morning and end up together without any relationship evolution. The relationship looked believable because it took 6 long years for the couple to realize and finally admit it and even after that, it took another 12 or so months to finally work on it to be an official couple.

But when it comes to a real relationship- post marriage, some of these differences and flaws could cause issues.  A marriage counselling would help Ron and Hermione to work on their flaws and build on a happy married life.  Ron stabbing the locket horcrux was an important step for Ron to overcome his insecurities, but it is impossible in my opinion for a person to overcome things which are deep rooted, in a single moment. Could be because of the counselling effect the Epilogue Ron looked very comfortable in his own skin and continues to be at his jovial best. When Rose and Albus were wondering why everyone was staring at the trio, Ron says "Don't let it bother you- It's me I'm extremely famous." And Epilogue Hermione, who used to snap at Ron at times when he makes insensitive comments, just tries to restrain Ron when his jokes were going overboard, without being miffed- a positive effect of marriage counselling..!!

I have always imagined Ron and Hermione to be that kind of a couple who would often bicker over silly things but still deeply love and care for each other at the end of the day. These squabbles were one of the many factors which made them an engaging couple.

As for JKR's comments on H/Hr- Yes a H/Hr relationship also had potential, we can't deny that, and probably they were not as dissimilar as R/Hr were. But H/Hr also has its own set of flaws- Ron used to voice his differences to Hermione, but Harry chose to remain self-absorbed, which is not the sign of a good relationship. And regarding JKR's comments on the dance scene, here again I find it to be a realistic ghost of an awkward emotional moment between 2 teenagers on the run in dire distress spending nights together . JKR doesnt say anywhere in the interview that she regrets R/Hr or that she wanted H/Hr to be together- all those headlines in the media show that there are a lot of Rita Skeeters out there.

Proud to be a Potterhead and a Romione Shipper..... Thank you all.. :)

  2. ^^..

    Thanks Trixie...

The full interview is out guys...

    All is well....

    You can read it here:http://www.mugglenet.com/jkrint-wonderland-020714.shtml

JKR says that Ron needs to work out on his self-esteem and Hermione on being less critical,

She says that Ron and Hermione need to sort out their incompatibilities, which would be okay when they are young but not during adulthood.

She says that Harry and Hermione would have been a good couple, but girls like Hermione would like someone like Ron to lighten them up and with a little bit of counselling Ron and Hermione would come good in the end...!!!!!!

  3. This!!!!! Ron was always the connection between Harry and Hermione. That is what I hated about the films, it seemed like Harry and Hermione were closer, when  the closer ones were Ron and Harry.

True.. I hated the movies for portraying Ron as a whimpering and cowardly sidekick. What enraged me the most was when in PoA. Ron's character defining confrontation with Sirius in the Shrieking Shack where he stands up on his broken leg and yells" If you want to kill Harry, you will have to kill us too", was stolen and given to Hermione. Ron was instead left to cower in a corner of the room, which is such an injustice to the character.

If JKR's comments are true, then it would be the very creator who would also be showing injustice to Ron.

  4. In a fictional world, people get drawn more towards ideal characters who are perfect or near perfect- like Harry, Hermione, Lily and Dumbledore. Ron is one of the most realistic characters in ther series who has certain flaws(just like all of us) but still a very noble character on the whole. Some readers tend to pretend as though they do not have any flaws and so they do not like Ron.

If we analyse Ron's character from a broader perspective, it is no surprise that Ron may be having some of the insecurities which any person in his position would have had.

Ron's deepest fears were: being unloved, and an inferiority complex of being a mediocre among his siblings and the trio in terms of achievements and abilites. Ron was born in a poor family. He was a victim of the 'middle child syndrome'- All his possessions were hand me downs from his elder siblings. His brothers had scaled heights and he had to live upto their level. The way his twin brothers and his own younger sister(for whom he was very protective) rebuffed and taunted him does not help him to assuage his insecurities. His thoughts that he was the least loved by his mother was definitely unfounded, but in the books we get to see Mrs Weasley showing more outward signs of affection to Harry.

But Ron always tried to put up with it, trying to convince himself that it wasnt true, but still had them buried somewhere deep in his mind. Nevertheless, he rarely showed any sort of indifference towards Harry and always remained loyal to him- that shows Ron's real character. Fans love to gloss over the fact that even when Ron wasnt talking to Harry in GoF, he had come down to check on Harry when he had not come to bed  late in the night.  It was the effing Horcrux which finally fed on Ron's insecurities and stirred it up again, and made him imagine things much worse than what he had ever feared. People forget that Ron was not in his senses when he left the trio in DH, (because of the horcrux), that he was the one who was wearing the locket when the trio overheard the Ted Tonks say that "the Weasleys
don’t need any more of their kids injured,do they?", which would have definitely compounded his fears. People forget that he wanted to come back the moment he left, and he did come back to the river bank, but couldnt find them anymore because of the protective enchantments..

Ron's inferiority complex and lack of self-belief also gets into his romantic life- he fears whether he is worthy enough for Hermione who is the smartest witch of his generation and therfore his feelings remain confined to jealousy and frustration. The relation between Hermione and Krum, an international celebrity. further lowers his self-esteem-- Ron seeks Harry's advice on what Hermione sees in Ktum. Upon knowing that Hermione had kissed Ron, Ron's inferioriy complex hits an all time high that he starts going out with Lavender, the only girl who had ever shown an outward interest in him.

It is no surprise that it is none other than Hermione who understands Rons insecurities to an extent, It is Hermione who tries to explain patiently to Harry why Ron feels sidelined(GoF). It is Hermione who defends Ron from his twins' snide remarks when he gets the Prefects Badge(OoTP). It is Hermione who distracts Ron from the badges mocking him sported by the Slytherins before his first Quiditch match(OoTP). It is Hermione who understands that Ron's Quiditch performances would improve in the final match as his twin brothers have left the school.. And it is finally Hermione who makes the first move and invites Ron to the Christmas party(HBP) after finally giving up that Ron would be the one to take the initiative.

Ron is the glue that keeps the trio together, we all know how depressed and frustrated Harry was in GoF and in DH, without Ron. I hate it when people write off Ron as a mere sulking sidekick for comic relief- he is much much more than that.

Why does Emma share some of the fans' doubts whether Ron could make Hermione happy? Ron is the only one who has expressed admiration for Hermione(right from PoA), Ron is very protective: is ready to sacrifice himself for her(Malfoy Manor)- what more do you want to make someone happy?

You need relationship counselling for a relation that was not  merely a physical attraction but a slowly and steadily growing emotional bonding over 7 years?

I am sorry for the long post guys, this is what I believed JKR had meant about Ron, his friendhip with Harry and his relationship with Hermione, but I am quite baffled by the latest comments..... I may be overreacting, but I hope we get a clearer picture once the full interview comes out...

  5. Very true Mr PumpkinHead, the fact that inspite of R/Hr relationship just being a subplot in the HP series, it is kind of amazing to see the overwhelming response from the fans- R/Hr shippers as well as the neutrals alike - who have been venting out their frustration and shock at the comments.. This shows the kind of support for R/Hr and the unabated love for the couple even years after the entire series came to an end...

Personally. it also boosts my liking and empathy towards the character of Ron Weasley- who is my favourite fictional character ever- who taught me that you can have your flaws and shortcomings- but you can still be a good person on the whole.

    R/Hr forever.

  6. Yes MrPumpkinhead, the more I read the comments, the more baffled I am, I do not understand why on earth would JKR ever make such a comment, 7 years after the release of the final book. You are spot on about Ron finally being treated exactly the way he feared others would treat him- I thought it was just the movies which did him disservice, but now the author herself??

Let us wait till Thursday folks.... I hope sense prevails...

  7. Can't help but admit that this totally unexpected and uncalled for relevation has shaken me a bit, but it doesnt change my opinion on R and Hr in any way.

Let us wait till Thursday for the full text and see what it was all about...

  8. The article has stirred up a hornet's nest in the fandom. The shipping wars seem to have resurfaced in all other sites.

This is exactly what the folks who released this liitle extract with out of context quotes wanted- to promote the magazine and sell a hot topic. The full interview will be released on thursday and the war of words will continue till then.

Relax friends.. It is clear that JKR wanted R and Hr to be together from the start and she has her own personal reasons. She doesnt say anywhere that she regrets it as claimed by the article.

As for me; the entire HP series would always have a place close to my heart and R Hr would be my fav couple forever. I dont care what some stupid article says. it is RHr forever...

  9. I do not see anything wrong in the interview

First of all where in the interview does JKR say that R/Hr was a mistake?

She just tries to appease the H/Hr shippers out there that she is sorry she didnt put H/Hr together..

Just like how she apolgized for killing Sirius, Lupin and other characters off.. Now does this mean JKR said Killing Sirius was a mistake? No..

HP takes a deviation from the usual cliche of the main female character falling for the hero, which is kind of an obvious thing to happen.

Instead, she chose to bring the hero's 2 best sidekicks together.. It was a gradually deepening relation, not as though it happened all of a sudden out of the blue.

As for JKR talking about relationship counselling, I really dont know whether it is true or not.

This little extract has been released just to create publicity for the upcoming issue of the magazine..

The article has been given this title to boost circulation, I feel.

  10. Hey cbmac,

I dont know it could be from a fanfic, I found it in another forum and thought of sharing it here..

Hermione's response would be "I met this most insensitive wart who had the emotional range of a tea-spoon"..."And finally ended up marrying him..

    "

I always love the way the "insensitive wart" fell for the "nightmare"... Kudos to JKR for having portrayed a gradually evolving and realistic love story in the background of all the adventure and action...

    R/Hr forever......

  11. Thanks cbmac...

As you said, R/Hr are just perfect for each other...

I am not a big fan of the movies, but a hard core fan of the books. And I am very happy that JKR made the couple so endearing....

Another cute thing I loved is:

    HP and the Socerer's stone:

“Yes — of course — but there’s no wood!†Hermione cried,
    wringing her hands.
“HAVE YOU GONE MAD?†Ron bellowed. “ARE YOU A
    WITCH OR NOT
    ?â€
“Oh, right!†said Hermione, and she whipped out her wand,
    waved it, muttered something

    HP and the Deathly Hallows:

“How — how’re we going to get in?†panted Ron. “I can — see
the place — if we just had — Crookshanks again —â€
“Crookshanks?†wheezed Hermione, bent double, clutching her
chest. “Are you a wizard, or what?â€
    “Oh — right — yeah —â€
Ron looked around, then directed his wand at a twig on the
ground and said, “Wingardium Leviosa!†The twig flew up from
the ground, spun through the air as if caught by a gust of wind,
then zoomed directly at the trunk through the Willow’s ominously
swaying branches. It jabbed at a place near the roots, and at once,
    the writhing tree became still.
    “Perfect!†panted Hermione.

    This is soo cute...:)

  12. After completing yet another re-read of HP series, I now realize how beautifully JKR has portrayed the evolving relationship between Ron and Hermione. I found lots of lots of instances towards the end when we see

    Take this particular instance:

    DH Chapter 15: Goblin's Revenge

“My mother,†said Ron one night, as they sat in the tent on a
riverbank in Wales, “can make good food appear out of thin air.â€

“Your mother can’t produce food out of thin air,†said Hermione.
“No one can. Food is the first of the five Principal Exceptions to
Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfigur —â€
“Oh, speak English, can’t you?†Ron said,

This was when Ron was under the influence of the horcrux. Ron initially used to be a kind of person who doesnt value bookish knowledge much and just scoffs at Hermione teasing her as a "Know-It-All". But towards the end he transforms to a person who respects Hermione's knowledge and remembers it.

DH Chapter 29: The Lost Diadem.

    “It’s quite straightforward, really,†said Neville modestly. “I’d
been in here about a day and a half, and getting really hungry, and
wishing I could get something to eat, and that’s when the passage
to the Hog’s Head opened up. I went through it and met Aberforth.
He’s been providing us with food, because for some reason, that’s
the one thing the room doesn’t really do.â€

“Yeah, well, food’s one of the five exceptions to Gamp’s Law of
Elemental Transfiguration,†said Ron to general astonishment.

I loved this little moment very much. Just like how Ron remembered this, he remembers about Basilsik fangs being able to destroy Horcruxes(Hermione says this at The Burrow), he remebers how house elves' magic and wizarding magic are different(in No 12 Grimmauld Place) and finally about house elves needing to be evacuated(this finally spurred Hermione to give him the epic kiss !!!!).

I simply love the way in which JKR has portrayed the evolution of this relationship by being attentive to even seemingly small aspects of the relatonship..

In fact it is a commendable job by her to have carved out a splendid love story as a subplot of this series, in a book which is presented in the POV of another person(Harry). Hence we do not get to know of the emotions that transpire through the minds of our couple. Nonetheless, the relationship has been portrayed in a realistic and charming way....

    R/Hr FOREVER.....................

  13. Thank you cbmac...

I have been having loads of  free time this month and I straight away started on a HP Book Marathon reading.. Finished re-reading 4 books over the past week and starting with OOTP now.. While re-reading, I came across many cute and little R/HR moments which I have never noticed before. And it is so obvious after the Yule Ball that Ron and Hermione and going to be together,..!!!!! While reading the scene after the Yule Ball, when Ron and Hermione have a heated squabble in the Gryffindor common room, I just shouted out "Oh Ron! Why dont you just say that you love Hermione right there !!!!!"

Loved the transition from Ron idolizing Krum to Ron ripping off the miniature Krum model after the Yule Ball..!!

Hermione's scowls and frowns when Fluer kissed Ron after the 2nd task and when she smiled at Ron before leaving for her school in the end, are so cute...

In my opinion, Yule Ball was the turning point in Ron and Hermione's relationship.. . Simply love the couple.. RHR forever....

  14. I was re- reading OOTP the other night and I chanced upon this cute R/Hr moment which I had not noticed during my previous reads:

“Christmas before last Sirius gave me a knife that’ll open any lock,â€
said Harry. “So even if she’s bewitched the door so Alohomora won’t
work, which I bet she has —â€
“What do you think about this?†Hermione demanded of Ron, and
Harry was reminded irresistibly of Mrs. Weasley appealing to her husband
during Harry’s first dinner in Grimmauld Place.

Harry knew it long before that they would end up together...:)

  15. I know isn't it??? ;)

Can I just say how beautiful this is? :)

    Credit to amazing hjeanweasleytumblr

I just want to analyze each pic...this...look how in love he with his girl...and how patient she is being her man.

Hermione was just tortured almost to death and is exhausted...she knows if she doesn't get out of the way, she will be killed by the chandelier...she trusts Ron more than life and knows he will catch her...also EVERYONE in that room, including Harry scattered (I would have done the same thing if I was Harry) EXCEPT Ron-he didn't care if he got hurt-he put his life in danger to rescue the woman he loves.

I mean COME ON....all they need is to touch each other's hands/be near each other and that makes them both happy for now :-)

They have both lost their best friend (so they believe) but they never leave each other's side.

They don't know if they will be killed but all they know is they will go together.

A husband comforting his wife...the way she leans her head on his shoulder and he strokes her hair. GUH....

    GIGI I KNOW!!!!!!! :) Wasn't it...the first time I saw this I was rolling!!! :)

Superb compilation of GIFs.. Thank you for sharing..

I love the last one, the moment at Shell Cottage where Ron holds Hermione, as she finds solace in his shoulders- this moment parallels the HBP6 Book moment at Dumbledore's funeral. I am so happy that they included the shot for Dobby's funeral at least.... Does anyone have a front view pic of this scene?

    R/Hr forever....

  16. Hello all.

I have been a hard core R/Hr Shipper, right from when I read the first Harry Potter Book.

Even though I have rarely posted in this thread, I have been following this thread for a very long time, and it is very nice to read through your discussions and your varied approaches about the relationship.

I love the way the relation has been developed by JKR- she is an amazing author, from small fights to jealousy to friendship to finally falling in love. I am not a great fan of the movies, I am a book purist. The most striking aspect about this relationship is that it is very realsitic, it is pure love, affection and care, rather than mere physical attraction. In spite of Ron, not being the smartest or the most handsome boy, Hermione still fell for him, Likewise, in spite of Hermione not being the most beautiful girl(well at least according to the books), Ron fell for her. That shows us that how intense the love is. Each and every one of us can patronize a Ron or Hermione is ourselves, and is very easy to relate to them.

According to me R/Hr is the best ever romantic couple in a book, and thanks to JKR for portraying the evolution of their relationship in such a fanstastic and realistic manner.

    R/HR Forever...

  17. Guys, As i was re-reading PS book for the nth time last day, i just found something startling which i think was an indirect heavy clue dropped by JKR in the first book itself. In the book after the boys save Hermione from the troll JKR has penned :

""But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them." --pg 179 (American Edn Last line in the chapter Halloween"

Now i might sound stupid but just look at it in this way. It was Ron who actually knocked the troll down(he did remember what Hermione had taught him :))

Harry stuck his wand into its nose.

So does it mean an indirect statement that Ron and Hermione would end up liking each other??

What do you think guys.. For me it's a clear clue dropped by Rowling in the first book itself...

  18. I watched the movie 4 the 2nd time 2day....

    Luvd the kiss even more......

And I loved Hermione's beam when Ron races after Malfoy....

And i thought Neville said something about Luna to Harry which i failed 2 catch properly.

I became emotional when i saw the trio 2gether in thw last scene... And as the credits started rolling i realised that we won't get 2 c them 2gether anymore....:(

H/R/Hr Rock... Thank u JKR... They'll stay fresh in us 4ever...

And i simply loooooooooove the books.,,,,,

  19. One thing that frustrates me is Ron's lack of emotion when Harry says he's gonna die. Hermione hugs him but Ron doesn't say anything and mere;y looks on.. I found this wierd. He must have objected Harry from goin. at least according to the books Harry is more closer to Ron bur rhis was poorly porerayed in the movies..

ven when Harry is 'dead' Ron just looks on glumly without much emotion.

I hate the script writer for this......

  20. After having read all those reviews about the kiss, i went to watch the movie today tensed and without my expectations.

Bu i must the say that the kiss was SIMPLY HOT. The best on screen kiss i've ever seen. There was so much of emotion in it and Rup and emma have done it so well..
