  1. So... any of you Americans like me on here sick of the arctic storms already? Driving in this ice really sucks but... fun haha. 3 days of classes canceled at my university and possibly a 4th day. Everyone's pretty much been snowed in for the past week.

  2. Oh yeah. Anyone else thinking about prison showers there...?

We'll see (not literally) what happens when he drops the soap. His conviction will definitely be certain and I am expecting a fairly quick trial. Correct me if I'm wrong but multiple life sentences are expected as well for his counts on murder and attempted murder. This will certainly dwindle any chance for parole or early release... especially in a federal prison rather than them darn state prisons.

  3. I very much quite see myself in an urban condo or loft. I love the contemporary style to go with it too.

Here's a place near where I am now which I'd love to move into a year or two from now:

I high rise condo in NYC isn't too bad either hehe.

But as far as a home to settle in to with a family, a modest mid-sized home is good enough in a clean and quiet suburbia:

    ...

Bit off topic but would any of you see yourself in a house like this? I pass by it sometimes when driving to work or downtown.

  4. Sorry to put you guys a bit off topic here but I need some advice on what I should wear. We're expecting a very big weekend at work. As many Americans (or non-Americans for that matter) know, the Super Bowl will be held this weekend here in Dallas and there will be a significantly large amount of customer traffic in retail malls. I'm going to be working at Sunglass Hut in the Dallas Galleria all weekend and we've been asked to wear the best attire we can come up with. Normally I do like to dress up a bit to work in conservative and professional attire, but this will need to beat that some. One reason for this is that with the significant increase in customer traffic we are anticipating that many of these customers would be celebs who happen to be shopping that weekend here. Anyways I'd like y'alls opinion on what I should wear. I'll be working all weekend so I'd rather have a few options; here's what I came up with. (I do need to shave and smile)

White french-cuff shirt, gray Burberry slim-cut tie w/ matching cufflinks, black cardigan.

White french-cuff shirt, gray Burberry slim-cut tie w/ matching cufflinks, black v-neck.

Gray pinstriped barrel-cuff shirt, black skinny tie, black cardigan.

Gray pinstriped barrel-cuff shirt, black skinny tie.

What do you think? These are just some samples I came up with on the fly. I do have other shirts, ties and sweaters I can try. Dress code parameters however are dominantly black and certain words to fit would be "savvy, sexy, fun and stylish."

    Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? Suggestions?

  5. They mean Politically Correct.

So has everyone seen It's A Trap?

Got it on DVD and I have to say Blue Harvest should've been the only one but the writers were honest during the opening sequence in It's a Trap! The requested that we lower our expectations just this once and explained why... that whole bit was funny on its own. Still funny though.

HAHA, I'm so obsessed with this show. It's amazing. The rip off show American Dad is rubbish! Should have just left it as Family Guy!

    STEWIEEEE!

I did hear Seth MacFarlane say something about American Dad being an experimental spin-off of Family Guy but didn't expect it to do so well the first few weeks so the Fox wanted to keep it on the air. It does have its moments though.

  6. Our countries are not trying to 'conquer' Afghanistan though, we're trying to stabilise it. If we wanted to 'conquer' it, I don't think the war would be going on nearly as long.

"No one ever has been able to conquer Afghanistan." That was a line from the movie 9 Рота (9th Company) about the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. By 'conquer' in other words meant that no one ever has been able to succeed militarily in Afghanistan no matter what the mission. Even the Taliban had difficulty taking power in Afghanistan after the Soviets withdrew. They met resistance from members of the Mujahideen who were fighting during the occupation, some of the Muj joined the Taliban 'cause, others fought it. Many of them formed to create what was known as the Northern Alliance which became a major ally during OEF-1.

Considering most of the fighting is localised, most of the injuries and deaths are caused by roadside bombs and IEDs, I stick by my statement of light casulaties.

Edit: Also, I personally have a few good mates who have been injured in Afghan. Most of my mates are serving/ex-military, and I reckon they'd agree on light casualties.

I'm also just talking about Afghan, casualty wise.

I too have good friends who served overseas. One of my best friends served in Iraq, two served in Afghanistan. One of them was part of a US Marine unit who have seen more combat in one month than most units encountered during entire deployments, in the Helmand Province. The other served near Jalalabad a few years ago. The interesting bit was my friend who served in Iraq encountered no enemy contact at all save for the occasional IED here and there when delivering supplies to the hospitals and schools, other than that his deployment was pretty uneventful for him.

  7. By far the greatest programme on television! Well I'm an uber petrolhead and hearing V12s rev in a tunnel always turns me on, lol. I'm always excited to see them do car reviews and the Top Gear challenges are quite entertaining. Jeremy's review on the Ford Fiesta a few seasons back made me want to get one solely for the purpose of taking part in a beach assault with the Royal Marines.

  8. Always a good laugh! I've got up to season 8 on DVD plus all of their Star Wars episodes. Peter's shenanigans are always pretty darn hillarious; chicken fights; "Like that time..." <--- those are always the best.

    I love that show!

So funny, I love the fact that they dont care for being PC and take digs at everyone.

And the stuff Peter does is just mind boggling!

    What's PC?

  9. Am I the only guy that posts on the fashion forum? haha

The shops I frequent are J.Crew, Banana Republic(I practically live in that store!), Burberry only if there's something I really really like. Puma and the Oakley store here and there for more casual stuff then I occasionally shop at Nordstrom, Macy's and Saks 5th Ave.

  10. sirbendictvs,

If you don't mind me asking, what country did you immigrate from? Also, can you explain what you said below? What would be the reasoning behind this? Or did they even give a reason?

I immigrated from the Philippines. It may have been sooner since my mom was already a nurse in New Jersey before going back to the Philippines, a few years later there was a need for nurses in Texas and a bunch of Filipino nurses were sent, I was one of those families.

As far as the reasoning for that, I didn't read too far into it but I asked the tech about it and said something about there was some sort of virus or disease prominent in those areas. The one about Britain, I think it was something about the water. Not entirely sure though. I do know for sure that was the case with Costa Rica and the Caribbean. If you ever give blood for Carter Bloodcare or The Red Cross, you'll read the same thing.

  11. When the troops are pulled out, I can only see trouble for both countries.

They will be 2 unstable countries, I can see various different factions trying to take over, perhaps sharing the spoils.

The Allies should never have invaded, it was pointless.

Most of the world was against it, that is why America and Britain are hated by everyone.

No one ever has been able to conquer Afghanistan since Genghis Khan, period. Any success in Afghanistan will be a miracle. The British were there and failed, the Soviets were there and failed and now a multinational effort is struggling. The biggest problem in Afghanistan is control over the numerous tribes and clans in the country; an example of such a problem is if the ISAF and the central Afghan government ally or befriends one clan, they're deemed the enemy of another.

Who decides when a country needs invading ?

The Taliban cannot be totally beaten, there is a steady stream of angry young men willing to join them from various countries.

As for casualties being as you say *light*, try talking to some of the families who have lost loved ones.

The Allied Forces are having a difficult time in Afghanistan, fighting an unseen and often cunning enemy, this is not a conventional war, if it was it would have been over a long time ago.

You probably mean al Qaeda. The Taliban is an extremely conservative Islamic group which came to power during the early '90s after the Soviets pulled out; thereafter the Taliban was sympathetic to Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda allowing them to base themselves in Afghanistan. There has been a mutual alliance between the two ever since. Like I said before in order to succeed in Afghanistan you have to win over the numerous tribal clans. So far the Taliban and the ISAF are back and forth in control over the clans; some clans side with the Taliban, others with the ISAF. They are then used as either combatant allies or a useful tool in public relations. Then there are certain tribes in which find both forces as invaders and will fight either one. People need to understand that the war in Afghanistan is very, very dynamic. It's not good guys vs. the bad guys.

  12. I see. But damn, a long time. I for sure won't do that. It was enough stress to get the bloody permanent residence card (and lol it isn't even 'permanent').

hmm interesting. It might have something to do with the Chernobyl disaster from 1986.

In all honesty, the main difference between permanent residence and citizenship is voting rights.

  13. Know what you mean. They took even blood from us, looked if we have STD's, we even had to take vaccines (like we're from a 3rd world country and never took any). And I think we had to pay them our selfs because they aren't important.

Another 10 years? Did you had to wait 10 years to actually get the US ciztisenship, or could you apply for it after 10 years? Because they told us you can apply for it after you lived 4-5 years in the country.

We applied about 3 years after getting permanent residence but the state department was just very sluggish in pushing our file through. Correction, it was 8 rather than 10 years; in effect it took 5 years after applying to get my naturalization. We immigrated in 1995 and didn't become citizens until 2008.

About the whole vaccination thing, there's a reason polio and tuberculosis are non-existent in this country. There are also some blood-bourne pathogens they look for but I don't know what. I remember reading a bit before donating blood that if I lived or have been to the UK (and certain parts of Europe) prior to 1987 or something like that I wasn't eligible; also if I lived or have been in certain countries in the Caribbean or Costa Rica prior to 1995 or something.

  14. ...going to continue modelling for Burberry? If I recall she became an official brand ambassador back in 2009 but I didn't see her in the Fall/Winter '10 Burberry images. It surprised me in a good way walking by the Burberry store here and see a blowup of Emma on the front of the store and scattered inside, I believe in the spring/summer '09. The ones with her in the London attire are some of my favourites like this:

  15. I'm a born and bred US citizen so of course I have no idea about such things. My guess is that it's supposed to somehow help slow the flow of illegals coming across the border. Looks like we missed the mark there. That's merely a guess though. Someone with more knowledge would have to answer.

Out of curiosity though, why is it that you're hoping to relocate here? I always find it quite interesting to know people's stories and how they end up here.

Not necessarily, there's also a lot of bureaucratic red tape you have to go through. Once applied through immigration, your file goes through God knows how many offices and most of the time sits in a filing cabinet before being signed off on. Remember this is after approved a work/student/tourist visa which are difficult enough to get. It took my close to 5 years to get my Permanent Resident Card (aka 'Green Card' cause of its green colour) and what's worse is another 10 years to get my US citizenship.

If you know the right people to call, your process may or may not be sped up. There's only so many people handling your file; most of the time it just sits in someone's file cabinet for a few months before moving on to the next office up the chain and onto final approval.

  16. I did this for one of my classes at university and was pretty interesting considering many Fortune 500 companies use this personality type indicator.

I got ENTJ, the "Fieldmarshal" personality: Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging.

    The MBTI describes ENTJ's as:

Frank, decisive, assume leadership readily. Quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. Enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others. Forceful in presenting their ideas.

For the most part that's true although I do believe that I'm more of an introvert (kept coming up as an extrovert every time I took it though). I see myself in many of the other types but ENTJ seems to be my dominant type. According to Keirsey, they're more comfortable and most driven towards in a leadership position in their job field. On a side-note, Emma's apparent type of INFJ mentioned before is considered the "Teacher" personality.

Notable people who are ENTJ's are: Margaret Thatcher, Harrison Ford, Napoleon Bonaparte and Bill Gates.
