Bright_Star
Hi guys, I'm thinking about deleting my facebook account. I wonder if there's anyone here who has done the same, what the reasons were and how you feel about it now .
Lady Deadpool
My friend once decided to delete her account but she actually couldn't. She could only deactivated and reactivate it whenever she wanted. From what i heard you can't actually delete your account. I could be wrong though. The reason was that she actually got bored haha and she hardly used it anyway.
Arie
Dina is right, you can't fully delete your account. I mean you can get a bunch of friends to report you and FB will ban you, but that's not the best option. I have deactivated my account before. I was getting bullied for a while due to what people saw on my FB. A few girls were basically stalking me then they would talk about every little thing they saw. Who I spoke too, what I posted. Finally I felt so unsafe that I deactivated it. I did reactivate it, but I keep it totally secure. You can't even search me or see anything without me friending you first. I do deactivate it sometimes when I have a lot of work. I haven't had an issue since that time. It was years ago right when I graduated HS.
Jade
You can only deactivate it. I deactivated my old one and started a new one. I did this because I have over 1,000 friends on my old one and my facebook was way to active. I started my new one so I could have those I see daily, it now has 300+ friends. Those are all people either family or people i see day to day. My old one had: - Primary School People- Secondary School People- 3 college courses worth of people- Nights out people- Hanging out people (I used to go out and about everyday)- Internet people It was too crowded. It was quicker to start again rather than delete them all.
Maestro
Facebook is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. That you are a slave. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. Eh, movie quotes aside...no, never thought about leaving facebook. I have a very limited amount of people on FB(family, friends and colleagues) and I feel comfortable enough to say pretty much anything I like...then again, I'm a boring person . If someone sends me a friend request I first check whether I actually want that person to be on my friendslist... I have deleted all my other social network stuff(aside from twitter)...which was very annoying to do because a delete account button is very difficult to find on those types of sites(Hyves, Netlog, myspace). Revan
I deleted Mine for a while and enjoyed it. If all else fails, You can always just log back in and reactivate it. Go for it. ~Revan
Virgo
If you want to deactivate your facebook account, I say go for it, because I deactivated my facebook account a couple months ago too.
Bright_Star
Thanks for the replies! I read on a couple of websites that it is in fact possible to actually delete your account, the way to do it is hard to find out, though. The reason why I want to quit is in fact that I feel it's taking up too much time; I'm on it too often, and recently I've started to feel annoyed when someone's posting a party picture or a picture of their dinner, saying: 'yummm gonna eat this all'. I also feel uncomfortable at the privacy policies of facebook. The disadvantage is, though, that many social activities are arranged nowadays on Facebook, and nowhere else, so I'd miss those. But I just feel I want to be able to read my novels for my studies without being tempted to check out facebook...
Data Vampire
Try Freedom. It disables internet access on your computer for up to eight hours and is the only reason I've been able to get any writing done this week. I think the same company also makes a program that just blocks social networking sites. Alternatively you could just read somewhere without computer/internet access. If you try to permanently delete your Facebook account, Mark Zuckerberg sends his ninja after you. Edited March 2, 2012 by Data Vampire
Jackie
I wanna delete because i have no friends on Facebook.... What a tragedy..
Thessalie
I think you can actually delete it : Here is a link I found on a reliable website - and I actually used it to delete acounts that I had created to have more friends for a game. https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account I believe that link is quite unfindable because facebook doesn't want to lose users. But it seems to me that it's almost illegal to forbid people to erase their informations, so there had to be an option somewhere. For those wwho had problems on facebook : why didn't you unfriend the people you had problems with ? Why didn't you just change your profile settings and privacy settings so that people could not check your informations, stuff like that ? That's what I do and I must say that when you use moderately facebook, there is no matter ^^ Truly, people that don't post or don't do anything never get anything bad in return, I promess You just have to find a good balance with it.
