I can't remember the exact reason but according to my dad (30 years as a presbyterian minister and studied theology at union semenary) the act of worship is to our benefit not God's we have this strange idea that we have to do as God asks because it's good for him but he's eternal and all powerful, we can't make him better. We tend to try to fit God into our understanding and therefore make him small but we should be trying to expand our understanding. Also the principle that the work of salvation has already been done for us and all we have left is to be grateful, I don't know about anyone el

Governments knew enough about us to destroy our lives long before facebook, facebook does use our information to help businesses with targeted advertising but them google does the same thing with search patterns and the like. It's fairly common. To be honest I agree with ckravitz but I just wanted to point out that websites do use our info but in well known about and fairly common ways and that governments don't need help with collecting information on their own people.
