  1. and who doesn't spend money on shoes? I love this fantasy world that some men live in where they think that the women's fashion industry isn't insane for being expensive and illogical (just try and figure out women's trouser sizes, how do they even work?). In case you weren't aware, good, quality shoes that will last you more than a few weeks one summer cost money. My friends and I will easily drop a couple hundred dollars on a good pair of shoes or sandals, so I don't know why people expect Emma to be wearing shoes from a discount bin.
  2. I never made it past the third chapter of The Casual Vacancy, so I'm not sure I'll like this one (crime isn't really my thing). I think my mom is planning on buying it, and we share a Kobo account, so I guess I may read it eventually.
  3. Thank you! I'm excited to find a flat so I can "officially" begin my life in England!
  4. Trying to figure out how I will hunt for a flat in a city 3 hours from where I currently am. (I got a job in Brighton.)
  5. Today I wore leggings, an old t-shirt and piled my unwashed hair in a bun on my head. Yesterday I flat ironed my hair nicely, put on a nice summer dress and went on a tour of an English country house. In the past, I've been very glammed up... I've done video shoots, photos, gone to weddings, parties... And rest assured, my personality did not change. My motives, aspirations and values did not change. All that changed was what I wore on my body and how I did my hair. Of course, I was a lot quieter with only a few people around today. But yesterday, I was really quite animated, answering q
  6. It's 5pm and I'm in my hotel in Earls Court (London) after a day of sorting out getting a British phone number and bank account. Trying to figure out what I want to do this evening.
  7. Which might be what she's thinking, so when the project presented itself she thought "why not." She said after HP she wanted to avoid fantasy and franchises... but that was four years ago. And she did try new things. And now maybe she found she likes fantasy and wouldn't mind doing a franchise. That's cool.
  8. I never even watched the Sopranos and I was very surprised and sad by this news.
  9. I bought new tights (my favourite ones have gone missing ) and stretchy yoga pants (which I use as pyjama pants, yolo).
  10. The reason my friends and I saw it was because we are all super stressed with various things, and we just wanted something fun to watch that didn't require much thinking and would be a good distraction... and this movie was exactly that.
  11. Like it was definitely vulgar. But I am a pretty uptight person; very "politically correct" at times and I still found it funny. And I was VERY worried about rape jokes because I am VERY opposed to rape jokes, so I worried about Emma's involvement, but the guys were pretty good at making it an anti-rape joke really.
  12. I used to not go to films alone, but now I find it to be relaxing and a nice activity when I don't have anyone to do anything with. I actually might be able to swing an invite to a pre-screening on Wednesday, so I hope I am done all my packing and stuff by then so I can go.
  13. I saw this today FINALLY and I LOVED it. I laughed the whole time. The whole theatre was laughing hysterically and a few times even burst into applause. You definitely need to like Seth Rogen films to like this though (luckily, I do). Loved it. I will recommend it to others. Emma's part was small but I thought it was good. She was sufficiently funny in her deadpan ways. Oh it was DEFINITELY Channing.
  14. People's lives change. All the time. I mean, if we lined up all of your life choices, I'm sure you haven't done exactly everything you said you would do. You're divorced, aren't you? Possibly at one time said you'd always be working in your high flying PR job. I was going to university to become a teacher, became a designer instead, said I would never live outside of Canada because I was too patriotic. If you're a person, then your plans are changing constantly and as long as they're not hurting anyone should not be criticized. Emma's degree has nothing to do with her career. And she's hard
  15. Trying to build up enough energy to get ready to leave. Going to hang out with two of my besties for the last time (other than my going away thing tomorrow) before I move.
  16. Yeah I mean, the book has to be good to get this much attention. Another Hunger Games or Divergent, I suppose.
  17. Sounds like a good enough investment. The kind of thing I'd do if I had a bunch of money I should do something with.
  18. Yes, but they could have just said "a new movie similar to GoT." Saying it's "female" makes it sexist.
  19. Yes, I understand there are women in the project. What I DON'T understand is why it must be used as some kind of qualifier. It should be able to just be "a film similar to the genre of Game of Thrones." Also saying it is a "female Game of Thrones" suggests that GoT ISN'T a female-centric project, when in fact there are plenty of female characters, some of them the strongest in recent literary history. Projects shouldn't be assigned genders. You should be able to go into it as any gender and find something to like or dislike without it being heavily marketed as for women or men.
  20. Ugh, I hate when things are called "a female ____________." As far as I know, Game of Thrones is enjoyed by many females, and features many strong female characters. In any case, I don't like GoT/ASoIAF so if they are similar I probably won't be interested.
  21. No, I think the analogy is spot on. It just shows how we try to shy away from these difficult but very real subjects. As someone who has studied World War Two, specifically the Holocaust and effect on civilians, extensively, I find censoring a text such as Mein Kampf to be incredibly contradictory to the message the government and school systems should be sending, which is that it is important to be able to be exposed to something, even of a problematic subject matter, and reflect critically on the implications of what is presented. Censoring sex, drugs and history is not going to make those t
  22. riiiight. I'm definitely supposed to remember an obscure reference that doesn't make any sense from half a year ago.
  23. ok well I've only been here on the past week since I finished my job and before that I wasn't here since March or something so I have no clue what you're talking about.
