  1. She's really started jetting around the globe since she started at Brown, hasn't she? Back and forth between London and various places in the USA, with a visit in Bangladesh in between. I wonder where she is now, London or back at Brown?
  2. While I do not like the fact that there won't be any more films, my obsession with the series was more about the books. I first read Philosopher's Stone in 1999, shortly after it had been published in Germany when the frenzy wasn't nearly as big as it is today. A friend of my parents had told my mother about this great book she had to read... I was 12 back then. When it was being discussed in the media that there would be films I didn't want to watch them at first, because I feared they would ruin the story. I ended up watching the first film five times in the cinema (I still have the tickets
  3. I was wondering what that was about . Don't worry, happend to me before.
  4. Same here. At least I got home to my parents on the 22nd, we have lots of great food prepared and will have a very nice, quite christmas among the three of us. We were going to have my grandmother and greataunt over tomorrow, but that was cancelled. The weather conditions are so bad that it would be too dangerous to pick them up. We might leave the house tomoorow for a walk in the snow, but that's about it.
  5. I would have gotten several pieces of the line, but the postage fee kept em from it. I guess paying it on top of the regular price of the products would have been okay, but when ordering clothes or shoes online I often return them because they don't fit. Getting it shipped from England, returning it and possibly ordering again - the postage would easily be more expensive than the products received.

    Snow

I'd join you in Arizona right away if I could. I found an article with some pictures, if you know Hamburg, you might be interested in them: Spiegel

    Snow

ROFL - I just checked the weather report online and they have a prognosis about snow at christmas. Rough translation: "According to new calculations the chances for a white christmas are bad in the south and west. It's likely not to happen." Source Honestly, accidents everywhere, transport breaking down, and they are sad about this white stuff finally melting.

    Snow

This and the past winter have been the worst I've ever known. I know it was really bad in 1947 and 1978/79 in Germany, but those are the tales of my parents and grandparents. I guess I'll be telling my future offsprings about the winter in 2009/10... Schleswig-Holstein (the federal state that is furthest north in Germany) could just as well be Bavaria (where the Alps are) at the moment. Snow and ice are everywhere. On Thursday school was cancelled in the whole region, which is rare (the universities stayed open - grrr ). First there was rain, than it snowed, an at night the temperatures fell
  9. I firmly believe there is some good potential in every human. But there are people who have lost it at some point in their lives, some earlier, some later. I think this is what happened to Voldemort and Bellatrix. Both of them show signs of derangement, and I wonder what happened to them, because there must have been some influence from the outside. They can't have been born this way. I think in HBP we get a slim insight in what happened to Tom Riddle. He experienced a lot of bad stuff during his childhood and I think this is what turned him bad in the end. In the OOTP film version Harry tells
  10. In the north of Germany nothing works anymore. In my town there was a notice by the local police station yesterday at noon, advising people not to drive and not to rely on public transport either - pure ice everywhere, neither the snow ploughs nor salt would work anymore! Some of the motorways are closed at times and trains are delayed or cancelled. I like snow as long as it falls, stays, and looks pretty for weeks, but not when it won't stop falling day after day.
  11. If some show broadcasted that part out of context, some people might actually believe it .
  12. I was just going to open a topic like this myself! Just came back home from the cinema and I have to say that I LOVE this film. I'd go as far and say it's the best one yet. I was a little concerned about it before because the book is so dark, which made me think that the film might be depressing, but it isn't. You do realise how bad their situation is, but there are always light moments that show hope - without becoming ridiculous (I thought some of the scenes in HBP were, especially the stuff with Lavender Brown). The ending of the film had people going NO!!!!!. It's excruciating to have
  13. I guess the fact that we now have (working) livestreams of the premieres is another thing that keeps people from posting about the premiere here. I remember how these forums would break down under all the access. People would fill pages and pages with comments like "I wonder what she's wearing", "I keep refreshing Getty, but STILL no pics" and stuff. This was the first premiere of wich I watched the full livestream, and after more than two hours of coverage I was ready to call it a day without discussing it. I also think that in the past years we were being spoiled with new pics and facts ab
  14. I'm not a citizen of the USA, so the elections aren't exactly on top of my priority list (in contrast to the excitement about HP). But since I'm interested in politics, I'm going to follow the news about it. Maybe they should consider opening voting offices in the multiplexes, this would surely give them a higher percentage of attendance.
  15. I'll be in the cinema on wednesday next week (when it will be released in Germany ). But as things are at the moment, I'll go there alone. Can you believe it: There are 21 people in my class at university, and NONE of them is interested in seeing the film at all. Most havn't even read the books or seen any of the Harry Potter-films (let alone having seen them in cinema). Depressing. Anybody else who has to suffer this at the moment? I need some support here!
  16. Did you know that it was rated "Wertvoll (eng.: valuable)" in Germany by an official rating agency? That's quite a compliment, because few films get it.
  17. I know quite a few people who havn't read the books and/or watched the films. I just started at a new university three weeks ago where I didn't know anybody and I'm still trying to find someone who will join me in seeing Deathly Hallows, because nobody really cares about it here (or at least I havn't found the persons who do). Unless you watched the films and cared enough about them to research who the actors and actresses are you wouldn't know Emma. Yes, she has been in several fashion magazines, but how many people do you know who actually read them (especially if they are male)? Emma has su
  18. Whoopie Goldberg was in Sister Act 1&2 with Maggie Smith Maggie Smith was in all of the Harry Potter-films with Emma. I love this game!
