Im not aware of a thread like this, if there is please let me know.

Im a huge fan of poetry; i love reading it, i love writing it, and i love sharing it. So i made this thread for sharing poems and advice on writing them.

My poetry tends to be about my inner emotions, its a way of letting it all out in an indirect way.

I will post some of mine soon but i want to know if you guys think this is a good idea.

My fav poem at the moment is probably This Shore by Tom Milsom, its about NYC. I dont know what it is i like, i think its the rhythm and how he says it (video on youtube btw)

So share your poems and favourite pieces!

I love Poetry as well, even though mine tends to come out kind of emo >.> idk why but it does lol. here is one of my most recent

Mind Games

I want to confess

So I can forget

But to confess

Is to cause harm.

These games in my head

They dont give in

I sit in the dark

Wondering if I am insane

But the voice spoken

Reminds me why.

Your voice soft

Your words unfeeling

Yet it still sends shivers through me.

Am I wrong

To feel this way

Am I wrong

To give in

These mind games keep pulling

ripping at the strings of my heart

You are him

In every aspect

But why..

Why cant I forget

You linger in the back

Of my god forsaken mind

Telling me words of coldness

Your name...

untold...

My favorite and most inspiring is Footprints

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,

that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?â€

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.â€

I don't really write poems, these are just some of the latest I've written, but poetry is not my thing. And I'm not a translator either, all of these are written in Swedish originally ;)

a little thought

You fill me up

I can't think, you're in my head

You're in my ears, I can't hear

You want me to shut my mouth

but I can't!

You fill me up.

I can't meet your requirement.

me against the world

It was raining

The World and I drank tea

But the World wanted coffee.

The World looked at me

I drank in silence

The World said nothing

We both knew where we were going

"You and I don't belong together"

little brother close his eyes

Big brother sees you

you don't stand a chance

Hide here

I will protect you

You will not be seen

Little brother close his eyes

do what you like

Don't hide here

I don't want to protect you

Not without cause

You need to be seen

Big brother sees you

Little brother close his eyes

What do you want?

observation

it's grey

my heart is hiding

the warmth is hiding

no, it's too early

it's grey

water fill the earth

they pull dead dogs in leashes

the clouds say nothing

i observe

from a safe distance

i see what you don't see

what you don't understand

when the wind is cold

but the sun still shining

they stand there

sun in the eyes

reflections

they stand together

the ocean in front of them

roar darkly

hide more than they know

they turn around and walk away

the ocean gives and the ocean takes

they go together

leave what it took

she look at him

he take her hand

they go together

away from the ocean

from the salt air

the seagulls cries

and the waves dance

Thank you =)

My favourite poems are by Sappho who lived on the island Lesbos around 600 BC. They haven't find a complete poem, only fragments. No one really knows much about her, but her poems are filled with love and some call her the first love poet. I use to read the fragments in Swedish. I love the feeling in them, but I haven't find it in the English translations yet ;)

**

What country maiden charms thy heart,

However fair, however sweet,

Who has not learned by gracious Art

To draw her dress around her feet?

**

By the cool water the breeze murmurs, rustling

Through apple branches, while from quivering leaves

Streams down deep slumber.

**

Who made me gifts and honoured me?

**

To you, fair maidens, my mind does not change.

**

Turn to me, dear one, turn thy face,

And unveil for me in thine eyes, their grace.

**

I think men will remember us even hereafter.

**

With my two arms, I do not aspire to to touch the sky.

**

Now like a mountain wind the oaks o'erwhelming,

Eros shakes my soul.

**

The sinking moon has left the sky,

The Pleiades have also gone.

Midnight comes--and goes, the hours fly

And solitary still, I lie.

The Moon has left the sky,

Lost is the Pleiads' light;

It is midnight,

And time slips by,

But on my couch alone I lie.

... but I'm my own critic and never think they're any good :ph34r: Maybe I'll share something later.

Of course you do. Have faith in yourself. I'm sure your work is good.

Though I'm agnostic and not a believer, I though that was a beautiful poem.

I have one I love that I would like to share with you :

Max Ehrmann

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.
